Default Oval drive near International Gateway?

As you approach the International Gateway entrance when walking to Epcot from the Beach Club, there is an oval drive with a central green area. It appears to have little purpose. Was there ever an entrance in this area for busses or cars? When looking at Google maps, there isn't any real access to any parking space, but there is a road that loops around and appears to have once been an access road. Just wondering.

There used to be a tram (like one of the parking lot trams) from Y&BC (and from Swan and Dolphin, I think) to that entrance, back before the Boardwalk opened.

Yes, before the Boardwalk existed, there were trams that would take guests to and from the Swan, Dolphin , Yacht and Beach Clubs. If you look closely, you can see that some of the color theming in this area matches the Swan & Dolphin color scheme.
Please stand clear of the doors. __________________________________________________ Por Favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas.

I noticed not too long ago that they've taken down the covered areas, which I assume were the dropoff and pickup spots.
