Nope, there is no "upcharge" in tickets for staying off site. However, you do have to pay for theme park parking priviledges, which is free if you're a Disney hotel guest.

Many years ago there was a "length of stay pass" that you could purchase if staying on site. Perhaps she is thinking about that, or one of the older ticket options.
Currently though, no matter where you stay, the price of the tickets is the price.
We are heading to Orlando next Saturday. We have four day passes we purchased From the Official Ticket Center. Our plans changed and we are in Orlando an extra day.
The tickets are official Disney tickets. Can we stop at a ticket center and add an extra day to our passes? We've added days in the past but we were staying on grounds.

Yes, Magic Your Way tickets are upgradable no matter where you bought them. You can do the upgrade any time within 14 days of the first use of that ticket.
There is also a new rule that went into effect on August 3: if the ticket is totally used up, you can't upgrade/add AFTER the last day of use. For example, if you have a 2-day ticket and you use it on Saturday and Monday, you can still add to it by the end of the day on Monday, but if you wait 'til Tuesday it's too late even though you're within that 14 day window.
