Which park for a 13 yo birthday

My ODS is turning 13 in November. He loves legos still and plays with them every day. He also loves the Harry Potter franchise.

I told him to pick a theme park for his birthday, however I am just not sure about his choice for Legoland.

I live 45 inutes from Universal, Legoland is almost 2 hours away.

I can get ok discounts through work for Universal, I have not looked into discounts for Legoland yet.

I read on the other thread here that Legoland closes by 5. It seems like a lot of money to spend on a park that closes by 5

Also, I read it is geared for kids under 12. I konw my son is still very much into Legos right now, but will this park be lame to him?

I am really going to try to get my Legoland review up tonight, but I am iffy on a 13 year old unless Legos are really really important to him and he likes tame rides.

There are 4 coasters and one water ride an older child might like. There are lots of play ground areas and rides that go on tracks in circles.

There is a drive a car ride but he is at the upper age limit for that. There are areas to build with Legos, but they were a bit smaller than I expected. And they have water skiing shows as wells as 3 other shows.

If he is looking for thrills , it is probably not the park for him. If he loves looking at the Lego creations at DTD and could spend the day there, he should be fine.

He is not a thrill seeker by any means. He plays with his legos every single day. Even though he may be a little big I am leaning twords Legoland for him. Plus we will have my almost 4 year old with us.
