Jurassic Park IOA Expandion

Rumors are flying regarding an upcoming Jurassic Park expansion in IOA... Some of the talk involves a wooden coaster of some sort, designed for families... Still trying to determine the theme, but rumors are the wooden coaster would be a trip through the amber mines of Jurassic Park... The company who would be the lead design is Gravity Group... Search their YouTube page for an idea of their wooden coasters.. More specifically, look for the coaster called The Splinter...

Wow! Thanks for passing along that rumor. That clip of the Splinter was awesome, and the theming would work perfectly, too. Maybe Universal will have to get a second look from me after all. Are their rides properly maintained (unlike WDW's)?

Now they are... Since Comcast has taken over the parks are the best they have ever been... Their upkeep is much better, and dare I say, has surpassed Disney's...

Looks like they are also considering a jeep based ride through as well. Saw some layout drawings for the ride and vehicles. Very cool.

No jeep based ride... Too similar to River Adventure... The jeep based ride was originally planned.. Doubt you'll see that happen now...

Some rumors have come to light regarding a Jurassic Park expansion...

The big project would be the Amber Mine Train coaster... It would be designed toward families, and (this is going to sound familiar) be a run away train through highly detailed amber mines... Not a kiddie coaster by any means, but one designed with the family in mind...

A dark ride is also supposedly included in the expansion.. You would enter in the Discovery Center, were the labs currently are.. From there, your ride vehicle would take you through a slow moving dark ride... One of the rumored scenes would be straight from the movie (the DNA scene)... other scenes would include very detailed labs, hatching dinosaur egg, and a tour through a containment center housing Velociraptor AA's...

The River Adventure would receive a MAJOR refurbishment, including new AAs (much needed)... And an upgrade and additions to the child play area, Camp Jurassic, including possible "live dinaosaurs"....

New food and merchandise would also be included, though don't expect a sit down or counter service style restaurant...

Rumored opening date is Summer 2014... One year to do all this... if this comes to fruition...

I always thought the Juassic Park area was under utilized. Better food is needed in that area also.

I hope they do improve that area. I like the theming but there isn't much to do & the ride is too short. I agree with the post above about the food. Our food was very dry.

Dark ride scrapped... Everything else appears to have been given the green light... It is a shame, the dark ride idea sounded great...

Walls may be going up after the summer rush...

I say IOA is already a theme park that is a must see... The theme is fantastic... And only getting better...
