    Default Flight question

We have been to Disney many times and are looking forward to going this December. We are taking my two nieces, one 13 years old and the other 15 years old. We have always flown with just immediate family, so what will they need to get on the plane? School ID, Birth certificate? I just want to make sure we are prepared. Thanks

When my children traveled with another family or the church group and so forth, I gave the adult in charge a copy of their insurance card front and back, photo ID of the child, along with a letter assuring emergency personnel that this adult had authority to act on my behalf until I could get to the hospital or were ever my presence was needed.
When I traveled with a church group or school group that is what I asked of the parents I represented.
This was certainly not legally binding but it made me feel better if I was responsible for another person's child.

We will be traveling with our DGS in May. I will have DD draw up paperwork showing that we have her legal permission to take her child to Orlando and the dates. This paper will also have the medical insurance and authorization for us to authorize treatment. I'm more concerned getting on the plane in case he decides to have issues!!!! He's almost 4 and is excited about going, but you never know about kids, especially since he doesn't have picture ID.

Legally to travel domestically with in the US, only people age 18 and over are required to show ID. It is always a good idea to travel with a copy of their birth certificate just in case you may need it for an emergency. If you are travelling alone with the children, it's also a good idea to have a notarized letter from the parents stating you have permission to leave the state with them and are able to make medical decisions for them. The airlines will never check for this. But they are good to have just in case a medical issue arises. If they do have picture IDs from their schools, it never hurts to bring them as well.

My kids (15 & 9) are usually asked "who is (their name)?" and then "and who are you traveling with?"I do not believe kids need a picture ID but I agree that if you are not traveling with the kids' parents, a notarized letter giving you permission to travel and to provide medical and other emergency decisions for the kids is a must.

Under 18 no problem flying with no ID. My youngest had no problems flying and no picture ID - no driver license or school ID.

The only issue she has had traveling alone was with Amtrak. They made her get off the train before her stop ( in Baltimore, no less. ). Which was a big problem. Don't let teens travel alone on Amtrak without ID.

And when we had friends travel with our kids, we got all the paperwork suggested- medical information, letter from parents and emergency permission form and insurance card information. All the information you would provide if your child went on a scouting or youth trip with other adults.
