    Default August weather

I’m trying to convince my husband to camp at the Fort the middle of August. He’s afraid it will be too hot to enjoy it. We live in Michigan and often avoid camping much during July and early August because it’s too hot, but we have a nicer rig now and how could any trip to Disney be miserable?! We would get tickets to the parks, but would include Pluses so we can go to the water parks. We would be camping 2 weeks. Any recommendations to help make sure the trip would be enjoyable? And what is the weather actually like in August?

    Thanks!

When our four kids were in school, we went several times during the last two weeks of August. Yes, it is that hot and humid (it makes a Jersey hazy, hot and humid day seem like spring.... but the crowds were down as the southern schools were back in session and the water parks and pools were all up and running.... and usually the parks were open later .....

You will hear the same advice from others: rope drop, leave the parks for an afternoon break, then back at night. Lots of water and sunscreen and pace yourself.

    We actually enjoyed it ....

We usually go the last week in August before the kids head off to school. It is hot and humid with late afternoon showers but bearable. I do use one of those neck towels to keep cool and it seems to work. I would say if you and anyone in your party has breathing problems it might not be a great time to go because the air seems "heavy".

It is hot and humid in August. Like said above take advantage of being at the parks at rope drop, do afternoon breaks and night time hours. Will still be hot but a little more manageable. Do be prepared for the quick down pours that happen in DW that time of year

Temps average 92 degrees during the day and 75 degrees at night. Most afternoons there will be a short thunderstorm which tends to make the evening air feel like you are in a sauna.

I would not recommend going this time of year if you are not used to that kind of heat. Also I have seen many northerners not respect the Florida sun and get severe sunburns. So if you do decide to go, use lots of sun screen, wear a hat, and try to stay in the shade as much as possible. Lastly drink water, not soft drinks or alcohol.

If you don't camp in MI in July, August, I'm not sure why you would attempt Disney, except that it is Disney which makes the most miserable circumstances seem better. August in Florida is high temps, high humidity. The air is dank, so that when you get wet (like on some rides), you really don't dry off completely. You just stay hot and sticky all the time, except in long periods of air conditioning. I think camping without AC would be uncomfortable. There are strategies to make getting through the parks during the day easier, as others have said, but I can't imagine not going back to an air-conditioned space to regroup at midday or at the end of the day. I would really be dragging and not get the most out of my vacation, but you could be made of stronger stuff. Good luck!

    I'm originally from Detroit.

I believe Dante wrote about camping in August/Orlando in his Divine Comedy.

    Is it August or nothing?

I've lived in TX my whole life, 3 years of that time I lived in Houston.

We won't do WDW in July or August. (That trip you see below over Labor Day was DisneyLAND) We've done June and September, but would rather not if it could be avoided. If you take this trip, as others have recommended, go to the parks early and plan to rest or do indoor attractions from 2-6. Come back out in the evening.

If you do not have AC in your rig, that would be a deal breaker for sure. In that case, I could not recommend camping in August.

Good Luck! And whenever you go- no matter what time of year, hydrate like crazy and protect yourself against the sun.

Houston in August, also in the Inferno.

The only place worse than Orlando in August.

    Don't do it.

At least in Houston we have a chance of rain to cool things down in August, unlike that desert you call Fort Worth. (Though we could have done with a lot less rain this past August).

I was about to say, the 100 degrees/ 99% humidity is crazy, but 100 degrees/ 110% humidity is insane

Hope you all weathered the storms okay.

FTW is hot, dry and miserable in August, no doubt. But Houston is just as hot, and insane humidity. I'd love to live in Houston, but, just too hard. Too blue for me too. But, way too humid.

You know how your oven has settings for your broiler of High or Low? That's pretty much day and night temps in FL during August. Added humidity is the pièces de résistance.

Using those accent marks is plain impressive.
