    Default Bring your own sheets?

I'm actually thinking about bringing my own fitted sheets from home. I hate the fact that Disney (and most hotels) use flat sheets on the bottom, with no mattress pad, so that in the middle of the night you wake up sleeping on the bare mattress (yuck!). Has anyone done this or am I being crazy? I'm not usually a germaphobe.

Gee, I never really thought about it. Since I have never had a room at Disney that wasn't clean, it did not seem to matter. And I guess we are gentle sleepers, no one in my family ever woke to a bare mattress.

I am pretty sure when we stayed at Pop Century that they use a mattress pad. Our sheets did get moved a lot at night but nothing that kept us from sleeping.

I guess I never really thought about it too much. We were always so tired that we slept all night and in the morning we were up and in a hurry to go to the parks that I never gave the sheets or mattress pad any thought.

I don't know about Disney, specifically, but many hotels use mattresses that are non-standard sizes, so fitted sheets won't work. Bring flat sheets, if you're concerned about their sheets. If you're concerned about the sheets coming undone, then bring sheet huggers or sheet straps (available for $6 from Bed Bath and Beyond, and a lot easier to transport than your own sheets).

As far as I can recall we have always had mattress pads, I even had to pull off our sheets this past trip because the boys spilled a drink and it soaked the sheet and mattress pad at POR.

I like the idea of the straps. I might add them to my "to buy" list. I also get annoyed w/ the sheets coming off, but for the most part, I've never noticed this at WDW resorts.

I know that the DVC rooms at AKL have pads on the pull out sleeper mattresses. (I did laundry while there) I would think if they have a pad on the sofa bed then they have them on all of their beds.

I am sooo with you about the sheet thing, we actually rent a car each stay and drive to Macy's. I bring my coupons and buy new sheets. Its a great deal for $15.00 I get a flat, fitted, 2 king pillow cases, sooooo worth!!
I also bought a great blanket for $30 Ralph Lauren cotton blanket, it was very cold this trip. We just switched rooms and I have heard reports of bed bugs where we are now, Carribean Beach so better to be safe then sorry!!
I also bring air freshner (febreeze germ killer or a lysol, my own liquid pump hand soap, small bottles of hand sanitizer, and we go off proprty to buy waters, 12 cans of pop, and detergent for laundry.)

    Hope some of this helps!!!

    Default Bringing Sheets

I have actually taken my own sheets the past two times we've been to the World. DS is extremely sensitive to detergents and whatever they use at Disney isn't good for him. I usually take a queen set for the full sized beds at the All-Stars and put them directly over the bottom sheet. I then take off their blankets/cover and fold them up and put our own blanket on top. Mousekeeping just makes the bed like the other and it's never been a problem. Although my reason is different than yours, I thought I'd let you know that it does work.

Boy, I think bringing your own sheets is a great idea! If we were driving, not flying I'd do it.

I've definitely experienced the sheets coming off the mattress thing! I think they do have mattress pads, but if memory serves, I think they are quite small, so as only to cover the "middle" area of the mattress. I agree - yuck!!

As far as proper size goes, the value and moderate resorts are always described as "full" and the deluxe resorts as "queen" (standard rooms, of course) so unless this is off, you shouldn't have a problem with fit.

The sheets drive my wife nuts. It does not matter too much to me. I will suggest the bed straps thing to her for our next trip. Thanks for the idea.

I have never brought my own sheets, but have been tempted at times. The first thing I always do when opening the beds in the evening is to tuck the sheets back in under the mattress on the sides. I can't stand bunched up sheets at night either!

In all the times I've ever stayed at hotels, the only one that used fitted sheets was a Hampton in Arlington, TX. I wish more hotels would!

I hate the way the bottom sheet gets all scrunched up, I always wake up on bare mattress. Yuck. There might be a mattress pad, but I don't remember one. I love the idea of those straps! The only hotel I've been to with fitted sheets was $200+/night, and it was lovely.

We have not had a problem with the sheets coming un-tucked...however I am a little squimish about using the blankets. I always bring our own when we drive. If we fly, I call housekeeping and ask for additional blankets. At least I know they are clean. I am not sure how often the blankets are removed from the beds. I would hope after each guest. but just in case...

I take my sheets with me. I do not mind their sheets but I like to feel like I am HOME. And the sheets you get at the hotels are a little itchy. I put them on at night and take them off in the morning so the maids do not take them or put up my do not disturb sign. Since we keep the room clean and usually take the trash out. People think I am a little strange but I do not care.

We had a king bed room at POFQ. I brought our own fitted bottom sheet and pillow cases. To make sure that mousekeeping knew that the sheet and pillowcases were mine, I bought blue ones (because they use white sheets).

Also, I am picky about how my bed is made (think hospital corners and bounce a dime) so I made our bed every day. Then I left a note for mousekeeping (that I printed on the computer before we left and inserted in a clear plastic page protector) thanking them for cleaning our room and explaining that there was no need to make the bed.

Scrunched up sheets will keep me wide awake and I knew I'd need my beauty rest while in Disney. I have no regrets about taking the fitted bottom sheet. Top of my list for the if-I-ever-get-to-go-again trip.
