Am I warped for thinking this is a little bit funny? I know it's a family theme park, but I honestly could care less....unless, on my one and only trip to WDW, my Splash Mountain photo was highbeamed by some betty and her girls. Otherwise, it makes me chuckle.

I guess we're both warped......I loved the comment about buying a photo of your family AND a poster size of the girls in the log in front of them! Too much........

So what happens when an under age girl (or boy) flashes the camera? Wouldn't that be considered child pornography? Seems like a lot of liability for Disney as well as the buyer of the photo, not to mention that it is illegal to even look at child pornography, so anyone walking by would be in violation of the law.

I wonder if this affects WDW as well? In 2002 I worked in the gift shops of RnRc and ToT. Part of our rotation was photo sales and photo edits. The photo editing consisted of sitting in a room looking at computer screens, screening the ride photos before they hit the preview screens.

During my 7 months working in these locations, I never saw flashing. The worst things I ever saw were people flipping off the camera, which I promptly deleted (ever see those blank screens on the photo preview station at ToT and get told your photo got lost in the twilight zone haha).

Still though, I saw a GOOD MANY birds being flipped, and would NOT want these being shown on the preview screens.

I would say that if they are not going to preview ride photos prior to the preview screens for things like this, they will get TONS of complaints the first time a stray "bird" ends up on a ride photo.

And it won't take long!

Excellent point, since authorities are now prosecuting underage girls who take nude photos of themselves and send the pictures to others.

This policy is doomed and won't last much longer than it takes for 5-10 complaints to hit guest relations.

If you are running a family park, you don't want topless pics appearing in the public realm.

Plus, since it's been announced, folks will be testing the policy left and right.

You have to wonder if anyone actualy thinks these sort of things thru before making a decision - if it indeed checks out.

I agree with John. This won't last. One irate parents will be enough for Disney to scan pictures. Unless there is some sort of software that Disney uses that scans and blocks pictures of such nature?

Or how about when one of the pics shows up on Fliqr with a topless teen in the log with Disney logos attached. I agree with you and John...it likely won't be long until the pics begin to get "washed away" again on flashmountain.

Why is it that the 'puritanical' US has such a problem with partial frontal nudity? Most other countries in the world could care less, but we have to make it into such a taboo that people will take any opportunity to 'shock' the people around them by exposing themselves in public.

Personally, I think we, as a society, should grow up.

In a roundabout way I do agree with you....for people who are grown up/mature will not feel the need to pop their "highbeams" when a camera flashes...your absolutely right-- immaturity is the problem.

I've never done it myself but honestly I wouldn't worry all that much. For the most part I think little kids are just looking for themselves and their family in the picture they're not really going to care if they see something else in it till Mom or Dad freak. My 13 year old DS would probably be OBLIVIOUS to it till I point it out.

I'm sure there's going to be a few issues if there's an underaged girl in the picture...that was HER stupidity...these young uns really need to learn to be more responsible for their actions. Sorry I'm just getting very "tired" of hearing about some of these REALLY stupid things some of these teens are doing and not taking responsibility for it.

I'm pretty sure they won't sell a picture with that sort of issue in it even if they don't "pre-screen" it. They'll still be doing some sort of "screen" when the print it. It probably doesn't happen often enough to go through a screening process twice.

It may be a good thing to be able to turn to the inDUHvidual and tell them "Hey...thanks a lot for runining the picture"

As Ian says above, the really bizarre thing about this is the fact that it has been made public knowledge, raising the likelihood of such behaviour.

The decision, given that the events are apparently so rare, is understandable.

Incidentally, I would imagine that while this initial censorship has gone, a request for the actual purchase of a picture with exposage/finger manipulation would be politely declined at the booth and those images would remain, as they have before anyway, within the purview of Splashdown Photos and the others.

Is it wrong that I'm totally alright with this decision? I say they take it a step further and let people purchase the pictures of people flashing regardless of if they're in the log or not. C'mon...you know the CM's have been keeping some of themselves all these years anyway.

I never said that other countries are right. My comment was simply to put out the idea that if it wasn't taboo, there wouldn't be the need, or want, for young people to 'break the rules' by exposing themselves in public. Since it is taboo, there is an illicit thrill in doing it.

My first thought was "man, what a boring job". I mean really sitting there day after day, looking at an endless string of photos.

My next thought was how frustrating it is that this position needs to exist in the first place. Another example of needing to make accomodations for those I refer to as "the stupid people", the people who don't know how to behave in public, or in society and have no regard or respect for other people or how their actions my effect others.

To the comment that this seemed like "nickel and dime", well enough nickels and dimes add up to dollars. When faced with cost cutting, you have to look everywhere. This is not a direct customer facing position, and it's one that should need to be there in the first place. Perhaps they have another plan in place, could be computerized, could be having the folks at the sales counter assisting in keeping an eye on things. We only heard that they were not using this postion any longer, we did not hear of anything they may be doing instead, that may be the piece they aren't telling the public.

I really don't think it fair to instantly think that the folks at Disney did this without due consideration of the result. Cutbacks and cost cutting result in sacrifices.

I agree that announcing it was stupid, because it just gave a whole bunch of fools a big idea. I think it's immature and disrespectful, but if I (or my kids) saw it, I wouldn't bee too disturbed, though. I'm pretty much a believer in treating stuff like the human body casually - I think making a big deal about it then makes it a big deal.

Well, with cell phone cameras and digital cameras in the possession of almost all teenagers today, these pictures are going to wind up on the internet more times than not anyway.

Also, I hear that Disney reverse course on this already.
