Best Good Neighbor hotel?
I haven't stayed off-property in a long time... what's the best option for a family of 5 that will have their own transportation if needed? Kids are 8 and under.

I stayed at the Palms Hotel and Villas for one night last week and it worked well. It was a suite with 2 queen beds and a sleeper sofa plus full kitchen. A good bit less expensive than surrounding hotels but still very clean and acceptable.

Red Lion Hotel was pretty good hotel and it was within walking distance of DL but has bus service to the parks

We've stayed at the Fairfield Inn on S. Harbor a couple of times, and have reservations there again for this coming August. It's very convenient, and no driving necessary. It's a very easy walk to the front gates.

We stayed @ Candy Cane Inn & it was awesome. THE best breakfast
-
I also stay at the Fairfield Inn on South Harbor. No complaints here, the staff is very helpful, it's clean and a walk to the park.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

I always recommend Candy Cane Inn if you aren't staying on property!

last year stayed at Park Vue just a walk across the street from DL. decent place and it included breakfast and apps later. basket in the room w fruit and wine. small pool. its a motel doors open to the outside. I was just looking at it on the off chance I go in June again as part of a vegas trip. but that time of year is more of course.

The words that stick out in your post are own transportation. Are you looking for a hotel that provides it's own transportation? If you are, there aren't as many of them as there used to be. ART busses (which is basically an overpriced public transit system) handle most hotel transportation, and sometimes the busses do not stop right at the hotel, when I stayed at Comfort Inn Maingate I think the stop was at the nearby Ramada Inn, and it took forever to get to the park as the park was north and the bus picked us up when it was headed south. After 1 day I decided to take OCTA, cheaper and more efficient.
But anyway, Candy Cane Inn has it's own bus. I've stayed at Double Tree Anaheim/Orange (city drive) and although not right by Disneyland, they have their own bus. You can also avoid these hassles by staying at Best Western Park Place, Park Vue or any of the other adjacent hotels.

I have stayed twice at the,Ramada on Katella. Nice easy walk to the Parks but isolated from the hustle & bustle of Harbor Blvd. The 2:times in stayed there it included free breakfast buffet as well
Too many trips to keep track of now! Vacation WDW twice a year so any questions ask freely ☺️
