Rescheduling with Free Dining

This may not make any sense but...I guess what I'm wondering is if other people cancel their free dining packages, is that room still free dining eligible, or does it go back to rack rates?

I'm wondering because I have a free dining package booked for mid-Nov and now may not be able to go those dates due to my oldest daughter having a pre-scheduled C-section (no date yet but we should know in the next few weeks; she's due Dec. 2 and the doc wants to take the baby at 37 weeks). Obviously I'm going to be there for her. That's not even up for debate. But if at all possible, I'd like to still go to WDW, and the free dining offer was what was making this particular trip a possibility. I'm looking at other dates and so far nothing available with free dining. Is this just a pipe dream at this point or could something open up?

If a "free" dining package is canceled that room goes back into the available pool of discount rooms. They only have a set number of discounted rooms per resort so if you cancel that would go back into that pool.

We have friends going then. They had to move from POR to CBR to get the free dining offer but it is working out for them

I've been looking at late Oct and early Dec but so far I'm not finding any availability. Do you think I might have better luck if I call Disney directly instead of searching on their website? I'm a little embarrassed to admit I don't know much about this stuff. We were DVC owners for years, so free dining and making ressies without Member Services is not my forte. LOL I'm out of practice!

It is supposed to be the same availability on-line and over the phone, but I have heard from some people that they found options on the phone that weren't there online.

Discounted rooms are limited though, so they just may be all sold out. Are there other discounts (like a room discount) that could help lower the cost during that timeframe?

Over the phone it could be the luck of the draw on which cast member you get. Some are very knowledgeable and others not so much. Your best bet would be to get with Magical Journeys who know how to navigate the system and can tell you if anything is still available. If it is, they can get it booked for you with much less hassle and frustration than on your own.

If for dining reservations, I have had some CMs find an opening that was not available online. I have had some CMs that I excused myself from the call and then called back hoping to get a more knowledgeable CM.

As for a room, as Chris said, I'd contact Magical Journeys and let them know your story and what dates are the best for you. They will sure try to get something that works for you. I used to feel I had to do it all myself. One trip with them and I would not try to book rooms at Disney without going thru them.
