Tapestry of Nations Fact Sheet

  • Sage of TimeSage of Time:
    • The Sage of Time's face is of the sun because of its importance in so many cultures through time.
    • Metal colors of gold, copper, and bronze were used on his costume because those are the "fruit of the earth" according to designer Marilyn Sotto Erdmann.
    • Symbols of alchemy were used as a reference to the Middle Ages' belief that alchemists had transformative powers.
  • Puppets:
    • Michael Curry designed 40 different body puppets and produced three of each making 120 in all.
    • The puppets range in height from 12 to 18 feet high
    • They were created in a warehouse in St. Helens, Oregon.
    • It took nearly a year for Curry and his crew of 50 to produce the 120 puppets.
    • Puppet Personalities:
      • Aztec Man
      • Disk Man
      • Hammer Man
      • The Sprite
      • Wiggle Girl
      • Bird Man
      • Inverted Marionette
      • Angel Girl

Millennium Clock

  • Millennium Clocks:
    • Lynn Holloway designed the Millennium Clocks rolling percussion units which provide the heartbeat for the show.
    • The units represent the passage of time.
    • The clocks feature Roman numerals through 24 hours representing the passing of one full day with each turn.
    • The clocks move forward on the left side of forward motion looking to the future and backward on the right side looking to the past.
    • The 19 feet tall Clocks were built at Walt Disney World Central Shops.
    • There are 15 Clocks in all - 5 for each of the parade's three sections
    • There are 24 drum heads on each side of the Clock - that's 48 drums on each Clock and 720 drum heads in all.
  • Costumes:
    • Marilyn Sotto Erdmann designed the costumes worn by the performers, drummers, and the Sage of Time.
    • Her credits include The Ten Commandments, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Disneyland Paris costumes.
  • Parade Information:
    • Performed twice nightly at 6:30 and 8:10
      • During Epcot's Holidays Around the World (day after Thanksgiving through Dec. 30) performed at 4 and 6:10
      • New Year's Eve 1999 and 2000 performed at 3:30 and 5:15
      • From July 15, 2001 through the parade's final performance on September 9, 2001, performance times were changed to 6:15 and 7:45 (changed to accommodate The Power of Blast!'s new show times)
    • The show consists of 153 performers:
      • 3 Sage of Times
      • 30 drummers
      • 120 puppeteers
      • plus 15 float drivers, technical crew, assistants to help performers get into costume, and crowd control cast members
    • Parade is divided into 3 sections:
      • 1: Travels from Mexico to Germany
      • 2: Germany to Morocco
      • 3: Morocco to United Kingdom
    • For the second performance, these are reversed:
      • 1: Travels from Germany to Mexico
      • 2: Morocco to Germany
      • 3: United Kingdom to Morocco
    • Beginning March 12, 2001, the three sections of the parade were reduced to two sections from Mexico to Morocco only
  • Music:
    • Gavin Greenaway, composer for Tapestry of Nations, deliberately used lyrics that sound like words but come from no real language. Using real words of any language would exclude all other languages and cultures. Being a uniting show, the words sound familiar and can mean whatever each guest wants them to mean.
    • Executive Music Producer: Steve Skorija
    • Music Score Composed, Produced, and Conducted by Gavin Greenaway
    • Recorded and Mixed by Alan Meyerson
    • Music Supervisor: Dan Savant
    • Music Preparation: Express Music Services

  • Show Director: Gary Paben of Walt Disney World Entertainment
