This is what I received from WDW Staff when I sent the question:

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

While we sincerely appreciate your interest, tipping is not mandatory.
However, if you would like to show your gratitude for great service, a
    tip would be welcome.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact
    us.

I think that answers the question about tipping. It is all up to the individual. I pay my housekeeper to clean up after my family, so I would leave a little something for Mousekeeping as well. Also, if I think the service was inadequate, I would let the front desk know as well.

I am a Travel agent and I call Disney many times a day so today while I was calling in I decided to ask. They called guest services and ask the questions and those are the answers I got.
So that is one of my Many calls to disney a day.

Thank you for taking the time to email Disney and then for taking the time to share their response!

Now the question that begs: Why are CM's, like Rusty, told one thing, and we the guests told another?

And therein lies the problem. I've lost count of how many times I've been told contradicting policies regarding Disney rules and regulations. I think it all boils down to the cycles of the moon.

I think MaleficentsDad said it best, sometimes the policy description is based on who you talk to. It's apparent by some of the responses we've seen on this thread, where current and past service people relate first hand experience of not being allowed to take a tip and customer service CM's who report that it's fine to offer them.

To tip or not to tip, It all comes down to what each individual is comfortable doing.

I don't think I ever knew it was customary to tip housekeeping at a hotel. My wife said the same thing. As far as I know, this is the first I have ever heard of this.

I got my e-mail reply from Disney. This is an exact quote from the e-mail:

"The following positions are allowed to accept a tip:

    Housekeeping
    Bell Services
    Parking Valets
    Magical Express drivers
    Room Service/Pizza Delivery"

So there we have it. Several of us who have contacted Disney have received the same answer so now we all know. Actually, I'm glad that Grim Grinning Marathon Runner brought this up - we all now have an exact answer and can tip if we choose knowing that the money is going to the person we intend it to go to.

    1) I do not advocate tipping or not tipping.
    2) I have previously said how I personally handle it.
    3) I have also said what the rules are.
    4) The decision I leave to everyone else.

    Default Tipping Mousekeeping....revisited.

Okay, I couldn't stand it! I called the Disney info line, and asked about tipping housekeeping. The gentleman I spoke with assured me that tipping housekeeping was perfectly fine, but to check with the resort we would be staying in just to make sure. lol. I called the Poly, and the lady at the front desk says that housekeeping is allowed to take tips. I must have too much time on my hands tonight....lol.
    Have a great weekend!

    Thank ya, madam!!
I always knew people from Pittsburgh ROCK!!

Seriously, I knew this was a hot topic, and I sort of expected to take a bit of junk for starting it, but I do think it's good that we have FINALLY gotten something "official" from Disney management.

I guess now it boils down to what the wise RustyScupper says, it's your personal preference.

I honestly didn't know that tipping housekeepers anywhere was customary, so I'm enlightened.
