In order for Tusker House Restaurant to be converted to a buffet restaurant, it will be closed for refurbishment from August 20 until November 17.
Seems like a strange time to close a CS during the free dining promotion. I do understand that they want the new location for the holiday season but still there will be alot of unhappy free diners.

Wow, I understand that AK needs more TS places, but I really wish they hadn't taked out the single best CS place in WDW to do it. I hope they have some of the items they served at the CS on the buffet (Salmon, Fried Chicken Sandwich, etc)

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! That's how I feel. I am soooooooooo angry!!! My friend says my typing sounds angry. That is our absolute favorite place to eat lunch in all the world. Now there is NOWHERE worthwhile to eat in AK. (and don't say flame tree because how do you walk around in the heat with a tummy full of BBQ? YUCK!) Our favorite was the Chakarandi Chicken Shop...GONE! Now Tusker House, too?
    I HATE THE DINING PLAN!
WDW food gets more boring and uninteresting every day.

    BUFFET?!?

Everything I have ever loved to eat at WDW gets taken away from me. It's been happening to me for many many years. Goofy Ice Cream Bar, anyone?
    UGH!

Well, I was going to go to AK for one morning and then have lunch at Tusker House but I guess we will just leave the park and maybe go to Kona or something. I was looking forward to the Salmon. I bet Flame Tree will be packed in Sept/Oct. I think the new breakfast is good but I just wish they wouldn't take a GREAT counter service choice away. Oh well, they probably have facts and figures to back up the decision.

I, too, will miss Tusker House as a counter service establishment. It was a cool, welcoming and affordable place to have lunch. Does anyone know how much this character buffet is going to cost?

    I'll bet it's a lot of $$$$.

And, what's going to happen with the old Breakfastasaurus location?

The loss of this excellent CS option is not good news. Hopefully, there will be some creative items included in the new buffet. Perhaps we can convince Disney to offer the current Tusker House menu items at the CS section of the
Yak & Yeti, which needs to open in time to accomodate the free DDP crowds.

    Default Great!

    This is
    Excellent News!
We've always liked Tusker House but converting it to a buffet gives AK another TS choice and a character alternative to "McDonald Happy Meals with Disney Characters"

Tusker House was always a place we went to in the morning for a peaceful , uncrowded breakfast. Definitely the best CS in WDW. I am sorry to see this change, but I always wondered if they would do something else with that large building that was always so empty in the off season/ off hours. WDW does not like calm, peaceful , uncrowded food service areas. No $$$$$ being made.

We've never had a bad experience at Breakfastosaurus....hopefully this will be as good.

Daisy Duck is supposed to be there....that will be nice.

Our family is VERY disappointed to hear this. Tusker House is our favorite CS restaurant in all of WDW and probably in our top seven overall. Their food was reasonably priced, delicious and a great departure from hamburgers, french fries and pizza. It will definitely be missed!!!

I think this a good thing. One of the bigger complaints I read here about AK is the lack of sit down dining, a complaint I agreed with. With the conversion of Tusker House and the opening of Yak & Yeti, we'll have two more options for sit down and the same number of CS options. I also think the character breakfast will benefit from being moved to Tusker House.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!

Any rumours as to what type of food will be available at the new Tusker House dinner buffet?
Although we have never dined at Tusker House, I was going to give it a try during our next visit. (based on the opinions here on Intercot ) Hopefully, some of the favorites will be included in this new buffet.

While TH was good for what it was, I always wished they'd put in a restuarant that went with the theme and served African food. If the buffet does have some creative, African or at least African-inspired food, I'll be very happy about this change.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Why do they have to get rid of the only good place to eat in Animal Kingdom? And replace it with, ugh, another buffet???

I loved their turkey wrap sandwich with the corn chowder! Now I only have the choice of BBQ, or Disney's infamous "pizza".

Well, since they have gotten rid of Tarzan Rocks! and Tusker House, I will have no reason to stay there more than half a day at the most...

    How disappointing.

Tusker House used to be our place to eat breakfast before the safari. Now where else would breakfast be offered, if restauarantasaurus (aka McDonald's) doesn't open til 10:30am?

Probably only option is that coffee cart before the entrance?

We had an ok character breakfast last time we went to Donald's.........

    1) And your point is ?
    2) Seriously, I fully agree with you.
    3) Due to the DDP,
. . . menu items are less unique
. . . many specialty items have disappeared
. . . food is getting too common and alike in the eateries

    Default Tusker House

Oh No! I am sorry to see Tusker House become yet another buffet. It was always our traditional breakfast stop at AK; it was always cool and spacious there.

On the other hand, I agree with Aventurer. If the foods in the buffet are similar to those served at Boma, with an African Theme, it could be very good.

    Time will tell!
