'Back to the Future' Ride Bound for Past
    Sept. 3, 2007, 6:20 AM EST

    The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- A ride that took theme park visitors "Back to the Future" is about to be relegated to the past.

The Universal Studios Hollywood ride based on the film trilogy starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd was taking its final passengers Monday. It was closing to make room for a new "Simpsons" attraction.

"Back to the Future — The Ride," was the theme park's first high-technology thrill ride when it opened in 1993.

Passengers were strapped into a moving carriage — modeled after the film's DeLorean time machine — in front of a film projected on a domed screen, which gave the illusion of flight.

The new ride based on "The Simpsons" TV series will debut next year, theme park officials said.

The first time I rode this about 12-14 years ago I thought it was the greatest ride ever. Towards the end the pre-show was not in sync, th queue area was dirty, and the whole experience was greatly diminished. Too bad they did not keep it nice. ET is a much older movie and it is still around. The Simpsons annoy me to no end.

I have to say this ride was great for its time.
It was the "IT MOVIE" ( back then ). The technology was new and inventive for the theme park world. Now, sadly to say ..its so outdated and a bit cheesy. SOOOOOOOOOO
Good bye to a great ride.
OHHHHHHHHHHH.. I really cant stand the Simpsons. This should be annoying !!! (As they are).
I would welcome a new ride- ( anything but the Simpsons..)lol.
Hey,Im sure lots of kids love the Simpsons( and adults).

Wow this makes me sad The movies to this day are still some of my favorite movies of all time. Therefor I loved the ride.

When they take this ride out of the orlando park I will be extremely sad. However the last time i rode this the ride was no longer as smooth as it used to be and the attraction and props where dirty.

wow...for such a great ride, 14 years doesn't seem like a very long tenure. my family and i always loved the back to the future ride...it was incredibly good for the early/mid-90s and is still in my opinion easily on a higher level than simulators like 'body wars', 'star tours', etc...its pretty much like a more active/intense version of soarin. shame it has to go...as a couple of you have mentioned they really didnt seem to take care of it very well, the queue was not kept up and the ride seemed to get jerkier by the year...not to mention the screen/movie was losing clarity.
i do like the simpsons though, so i look forward to seeing what theyll do with that...
