Need English Teacher Help!!
My son is working on a paper that he has written for biology. He has to use the MLA Style for citing sources.
His teacher has corrected his drafts and the final paper is due tomorrow....
My question is this. He has taken some information from his text book. On the paper for the parenthetical do I put the authors of the textbook or the name of the text book?
I originally had the name of the text book and she did not change it at all, but then on a differnt part of the paper she did make a notation using the two author's names...
I am going nuts!!!
thanks!!

I am not an English teacher, but use MLA every single time I write a paper... I've been in college courses since my senior year of high school, so this is year 6 for me... I like to think I am pretty good at it...lol
use the author's last name... a WONDERFUL website for MLA documentation (and my professors give us to use) is the Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue.
It is very useful and shows you how to cite everything and anything you could possibly use for a paper as well as how to document properly, spacing for a paper, margins, page numbers...you get the idea.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Thank you very much, I made the changes to his paper, I was surprised the teacher didn't previously pick up on it in the drafts, which is why I was second guessing myself.
I'm going to check out that website too!!
Thanks!

Not a problem! I am glad that I was able to help!
I am so sad because this term, I have to start writing in APA (my Bachelor's is of Science in Social Science and APA is the norm for the sciences and MLA is for the arts...). I have NEVER done a paper in APA and the format is COMPLETELY different. ugh

These stupid standards between the sciences and arts drives me nuts... I much more prefer MLA to APA. I hate footnotes and APA demands them...

My son is a freshman in high school and this is the first time that I have seen one of my kids have to write a paper this way. The teacher sent home a bunch of photo copies of the MLA style but it was foreign to me....I am glad the paper is finished and I won't have to deal with this biology teacher again...it was not a good semester!

As a librarian, it is especially confusing. Kids come in, wanting to know how to write a bibliography, and they don't know which style they are supposed to use. At least you are one step ahead, knowing is is MLA. You can always check at your library, though. They should have documentation. But the website should give the answers you need. Good luck!
