I don't think Tammy & Victor would've made it thru those China legs if they didn't know the language - part of the entertainment of TAR for me is watching the contestants try to ask for directions, communicate with taxi drivers, etc. I definately think the communication advantage is huge over a physical advantage.

I'd say the same thing if one task was make 50 free throws - then yes, Jen & Keisha would've had an unfair advantage. But that's just one task, not multiple legs.

Did either of these girls play basketball? I don't remember that ...

Thanks! That's right Beth, I do kind of remember that.

What I don't understand is HOW is this an unfair advantage ... should the producers just pull a bunch of people with no life experience? Take for instance EVERY time they have pulled a team called "Hillbilly" ... they are usually very pathetic racers and fall apart in the first few legs ... the whole point of the race is for people to be able to pull from their life experience and use that to complete tasks, get through countries and win the race.

The cheerleaders had their own opportunity to let their experience shine ... remember the dancing leg? They were SURE they could zip through it following choreography. Uh, yeah, they failed miserably.

What evidence do you have to support that? They made it through all of the other legs not speaking the language, why would China have been any different? And, don't you remember, I think it was the 1st China leg, when they were speaking to the cab driver but commented that even though they understood each other, all they could understand was that he didn't know where he was going! The luck of getting a knowledgeable cab driver can negate the language barrier.

I agree with Maryanne. Once Victor and Tammy figured out how to work together, they played the game well. They came in first on several of the legs in which they had no advantages.

They must have given them shorts to put on over their speedos and were too big. I wondered the same thing as to why they didn't tie the drawstrings on them.
