Default How can you build a baseball stadium in Denver, and not have a roof?

The forecast for Phils-Rockies this weekend is more suited for making snow angels than a MLB playoff series.

The frozen tundra of Coors Field?? A retractable roof would surely makes sense here.

Have you ever been to Colorado? They get 300 days of sun a year. Just because its supposed to snow, doesn't mean it won't be melted by game time. I went to college in Colorado. Snowed 6 inches the morning of my graduation. 3 hours later completely gone. Plus with a roof you wouldn't get the great view of the foothills from the nose bleed seats.

This is going to make MLB sweat if there is a snow out. Especially if the other series wrap up this weekend. The winner of this series will have to get the next series started right away. Barring any more bad weather. I'm sure Bud Selig will propose sending this to Milwaukee to play if it gets too bad.

Really if you look at when a possible Game 7 of the World Series will be, Nov. 7, what was MLB thinking in that? It could be a Philly v. Boston or NY series where the entire Series could be played in 30-40 degree temps. Because starting times would be 9 pm EST.

I would not be opposed to sending the games to Milwaukee...at least I would get to see baseball in October.

You got to see October baseball last year ... until the Phils kicked you out.

I agree, though, in principle. Baseball needs to take a serious look at how late the season is running with so many teams in cold weather cities. Forget even about the negatives for the fans attending the game, but it's really bad for pitchers to throw in such cold temps.

Thanks for reminding me Ian. 26 years of waiting, and we start over again. The only thing that could be worse is if an ex-quarterback came out of retirement to beat my beloved Packers...

And what a game it was Back on topic, the Twins new stadium that opens next season is also sans roof. Would I go to a playoff baseball game in 40 degree cold? Of course. However, if it's an early season game with little impact I'd skip it.

Colorado and Snow...touchy subject here today lol! 6 inches in Fort Collins!

That being said, it can be 70 degrees in February and snow in May here! Usually the stuff melts pretty fast!

I suppose the same can be said about football fields in New England, Green Bay,etc

Coors Field is a great stadium...not Fenway Park lol...but a fabulous place to see a game. Where else you look out past the scoreboard and see the Rockie Mountains?

I find that some people think Denver's weather conditions is exactly the same as it is the mountains. Severe weather in general is more frequent in the foothills west of downtown or on the plains to the east, we're in this bowl between the two. When it does snow, it almost always melts within a day. It just doesn't happen often enough during the baseball season to have warranted the additional costs, extended construction time, or the aesthetically unpleasing look of a roof. The newer parks in Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinati, New York, Philadelphia, or Pittsburg didn't build one. It is crazy that the post season reaches November though.
