Default looking for good BBQ along i-95

i have asked this question back in 2010. but, with the recent economy and the 2 years since i asked things may have changed. here goes : is there any good bbq joints along i-95 ? we are driving down in 30 days and thought i might surprise the wife on our trip home. i do not like to venture too far off i-95. we will be laying over in savannah georgia exit 94 off i-95. anything close that is good ? some of the reviews of sonnys are not very good.

    thanks in advance

I'm not sure about anything close to Savannah, but my husband is a huge BBQ fan, he's from NC. In NC there's a chain called Smithfields, we usually stop at one if we can. It's really good, if you like vinegar BBQ.

    Cool Southern BBQ

Man....have I found a place for you and right close to where you're laying over. St. Simons Island, Ga. A place called "Southern Soul BBQ.
I saw it on Drive-Inns, Diners & Dives and remembered your post. Since our NC BBQ is too far off I-95, this is next best thang. Looks so good. Wood burning cooking and what a selection! JUST google Southern Soul BBQ and open their site. You can even watch the episode I saw on Triple D. Let me know what you think! Yum Yum Yum...

Southern Soul BBQ on St. Simons, Island is definitely some of the best BBQ anywhere on the planet. It is worth the trip, but it is about 12.5 miles from I-95 to get there. You'll be glad you took the detour. It's not much more than a take-out place, just a few tables and very casual, but the food can't be beat.

    Cool

Sweatman's BBQ in Holly Hill, South Carolina. Its about 15 miles off of I-95. The place was featured on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. There are plaenty of good BBQ places here in South Carolina but thats about the best one thats close to I-95.

Another good one is Duke's Barbeque in St. George, SC and its only a couple miles off of I-95.

Both are great examples of South Carolina BBQ although Sweatman's is better.

Both are in the area of I-95 where it intersects I-26
