    Default backpacks for diabetics

My son has diabetes and celiac. He needs to carry his testing kit and snacks with him at all times (we even make him carry it on lines as they get long and in the heat he may have issues) We will be going to Universal (and disney, but I know the rules for disney) the end of June is this a problem? Do I need a doctors note? Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question, but for something so serious you should call Universal directly so you get accurate up to date information. I wouldn't trust this question to others experience, especially since all of these theme parks have recently been changing their policies on medical issues. I wouldn't wait until entering the park either....that would make you waste a lot of time trying to find someone that has the authority to give you a correct answer.

My son is in the same situation. He has a regular backpack (a RedHead camo backpack we picked up at Bass Pro that has a camelback water supply built in) to carry his supplies and had no problem going in. They looked in his bag but he had no problem. Don't know if that policy has changed in 3 years since we went.

Chris I think she is more worried about being in line with it and taking it on the rides. How did they handle that.

Put it between his legs or in a specific storage area for the ride.

Thanks so much. He has been able to put the backpack between his legs at disney and Busch gardens (the backpack is really a drawstring bag) I intend to call to confirm and also for the gluten free info. I just wanted to have an idea first. Thanks again

Some rides won't let you take ANY packs of any kinds (the really big coasters, for instance). Universal has temporary "storage" lockers beside those kinds of rides. I'm HOPING they would accomodate a child who needs his for medical reasons - perhaps hold it at the gate until you get off the ride? Even if they say you don't need a note, I'd take one anyway. Make it as easy as possible for them to do the right things.

I will get a note just as a precaution. I make my son take his backpack with him everywhere.

As he is more afraid of me than anyone else, he has no trouble telling someone that they will have to deal with his mother if they have a problem with the backpack (even the security guards at Giants Stadium!)

The only problem I would think would be some of the bigger coasters. I am almost positive he won't be allowed to take the back pack on rides like Dragon Challenge and Hulk. I would hope they could allow him to take it through the queue and hold it for you until you get off, given the circumstance.

Please let us know what you find out "officially".
