Default Difficulty Of leaving Home Base?

So today we went to our DVC meeting. The current sale is Alauni. When want to go to WDW how difficult of a time are we going to have getting BC, WL or BLT if Alauni is our home resort?
    Thank you

Are you selecting Aulani because that's what you want or because they're pushing it? Remember all properties are still available for sale either through Disney or resale at prices less than Aulani.

That being said, availability depends on when you travel. For instance, during F & W both BC and BW are had to come by; at Christmas time VWL is hard to get; BLT books up fast at 7 months but I think VGF may have taken some of the strain off of that.
If your traveling when there are no special events you have a good shot of getting what you want at seven months.

Thank you for your help. Our concern is the years we head to WDW we will not get a location of our top 2 choices. Price is not the problem in our case. When you mentioned everything is for sale? Does that mean through DVC? Can I email our DVC rep. and ask about other properties?
    Thank You

Yes, you can and should call or email your DVC rep. We have purchased twice direct from DVC and neither time did we buy what was currently being offered. And both times we had no problem getting the exact locations we wanted and the exact number of points we wanted to purchase.
Your second option would be to check on resale from The Timeshare Store. They are listed under ICOT Other to the left of your screen. Click on sponsors. The 2 draw backs to resale are that you can only use your points for DVC properties and they don't offer financing.

As Kay said, call or email your rep. When we bought they were selling SS. We told them we only wanted VWL and they got a contract for us. We were even allowed to pick our use year.

Anything purchase through Disney is considered new or direct. Keep in mind of the three you're considering BLT would have the longest life. Resales apply to those bought from a broker or person.

    The current direct pricing is:
    BLT expires 2060 $165
    BC expires 2042 $130
    VWL expires 2042 $130

Resale pricing will be less expensive but will have stipulations attached as far as usage. If there is a contract available at one of the resorts you are interested in you may want to consider that route. They will also take longer to close because they go to Disney first for ROFR (right of first refusal).

    A lot to consider.

If you are going through DVC rep you will be buying a new contract for you. The end dates will vary by location.
We bought about 3/4 years ago and maybe there might be new procedures. Our DVC rep has been selling memberships from day one and was very knowledgeable. We handled both buys by phone and through the mail. Very well handled, completely professional.
If you buy resale from another source you are buying out the remainder of a current members contract. The length will be what is left of that contract, the use year month will be what the current owner has picked, the cost will set by the owner and final approval must be given from DVC.
We used The Timeshare Store for rental of some needed extra points and had very good service with Jason.
    Hopes this helps you.

This is all true. And if you buy DVC direct from Disney, you will be able to pick your use year (the month each year on which you receive your annual points allotment). However, the end dates of the contract will remain the same; in other words, if you buy a new contract from Disney at the Beach Club, that contract will still end in 2042, as VWL Mom stated above. So consider the price you will pay in relation to the number of years on the resort's contract. Each is different.

The other clarification is that currently if you buy resale, in addition to using the points at DVC properties, you can also use them at resorts through RCI, Club Cordial or Club Intrawest. You cannot use resale points for non-DVC Disney properties, Disney cruises, Adventures by Disney or other upscale hotels in DVC's Concierge Collection.

These are all available to you if you buy points through Disney directly. However, many members will tell you that the point requirement for staying at these properties is not an economical use of your points compared with DVC resorts.

One more consideration: If you are generally not able to make vacation plans 7 months or more from your vacation date, it won't matter where your home resort is. That's because the only advantage your home resort gives you is the ability to make reservations from 11 months to 7 months before your check-in date. During that time, DVC owners of other resorts are locked out from making reservations at your home resort. At 7 months from check-in, reservations open to all DVC members, who can reserve at your resort or any DVC property that has availability.

If you are generally able to plan your vacation dates more than 7 months out, the general rule is to buy where you would like to stay. That's because you will then have that 11- to 7-month home resort reservation advantage.
