Did Tinker Bell used to mime instead of talk?

I know Tinker Bell as a character at the Disney parks talks, since she talks in the Disney Fairies movies. But what about prior to these movies? In "Peter Pan", she only mimes. Did she used to only mime? Very curious about this.

I believe Tinkerbell as a face character you could meet & take pictures with is fairly recent (within the last 5-7 or so years).
In the past, the only time guests saw a live Tink in the park was when she flew down from Cinderella Castle before the fireworks...

She only started showing up as a "meet 'n greet" after the popularity of the "Fairy" movies in the mid-2000's.

In my (humble) opinion, Tink still should have never talked (in the movies) (after 50+ years...). But, *sigh*....Disney saw an opportunity for yet another girls' franchise....

I have this opinion about plenty of individuals when I go to a WDW park, but Tink is not one of them.
