Default WL Silver Springs Falls Reburb

Just came across a posting on another site which showed refurb work being done on Silver Spring Falls at the WL. The work starts in the lobby and continues outside. Cloth tarps cover the Falls outside and pine trees block the Falls bridge in the lobby.

Anyone know of a planned completion date for this work?

Sure hope its completed before we arrive in early July.

Don't know when it will end but it started when we were there in early May.

It looks like Disney is telling future guests the pool refurb is scheduled to start on Sept 3 and finish up on Nov. 27. That's Thanksgiving day, so hopefully the completion is a little ahead of schedule.

It has also been stated, on another site, that Disney is also telling guests that they will be allowed to use the pools at CR as well as Fort Wilderness during the pool refurb.

While I understand refurbishments are necessary, this one just reeks of bad timing IMO. You have people that were originally booked at Poly moving to WL because of ongoing construction and now you close this one too?

I am actually sort of glad we picked this year to be a year off from Disney. Two of my favorite resorts and I wouldn't want to be at either during a refurb.

I received an e-mail today that WL main pool will be closed during our trip in September. I wonder why they don't do pool rehabs during the winter months or is it too cold?

When we were at WL last August, the pool needed a refurb. I have no idea why they pushed it so long. It should have been done this winter.

I've got to admit I'm pretty bummed about this. I totally agree that refurbs have to happen, but I also wonder why they wouldn't wait until the winter months, and/or the Poly is done. The timing just don't make sense. Apparently I am now paying rack rate (since the only dates that work for my family due to work are the two weeks in October where they are not offering free dinning or the room discount), for a room that probably won't have much of a view, depending on what the refurb entails, since we've booked a courtyard view room. With this going on they should definitely be offering WL customers a room discount for that time period, but I'm a realist and know that probably won't happen since the rooms are already probably booked and full. It would be nice though. I'm beginning to not look as forward to this trip as I was, and it will probably be our last for a few years just due to timing of things

I'm a little bummed too. I actually prefer the quiet pool for swimming but I'll miss the fun courtyard view in September!

Totally agree with this. This is part of the reason we book a courtyard view room. We don't actually use the pool a whole lot as my DS is 2.5 and plays in the kiddie pool, but we spend a decent amount of time at the resort and love to sit out on the balcony and watch everything going on down in the pool and in the courtyard. I just hope that what they're doing for the refurb doesn't mess with the beautiful view of the courtyard too much while it's going on.

Has anyone been to the WL in the past week or two and can comment more on the current refurb work that is being done regarding Silver Springs Creek in the lobby and the waterfall? How much of the exterior is hidden by the construction tarps?

We arrive there on July 10th.

Doesn't bother me a bit if the main pool is closed. As DVC members we stay at the villas and use the quiet pool. However, if that pool is over run by the main hotel guests, I will file a complaint. We paid good money for our DVC membership and should not have to fight for a spot of which others did not pay for. If someone has paid rack rate for a villa then they would naturally be welcome as us members would also be.

As far as I know (and maybe I am wrong here) the quiet pool is not, and has never been, for exclusive use of DVC owners or guests. It's an amenity for the villas, as well as the Wilderness Lodge resort. Same as the main pool is for use for both DVC and the main lodge. Unless something has changed I am not sure what good filing a complaint will do. All WL guests are entitled to use both pools as far a I know, and we've never been told or saw signs stating otherwise. And I am not sure why "paying rack rate" would make any difference at all. If a guest rented a villa through Disney at any discount they are still eligible to use any of the resort's amenities.

When we booked our upcoming trip; it was between WL & AKL. I'm glad we chose AKL. Not having a pool with two 17 yr old girls would be difficult.

It is and has always been implied that the quiet pool is for DVC use and those staying at the villas. DVC quiet pools are part of the DVC priveledge of ownership. Our membership has value and to compromise it by allowing other WDW faithful to share in something they do not have a financial interest in is not fair. I'm not a hard you know what. I just think a little fairness should be exercised for the DVC folks who have made a large long term investment in the Disney World Resort.

Both pools are for use by all guests. I copied the below directly from the Disney website which is listed under the "recreation" tab for WL.

    Pools at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Enjoy a refreshing swim in one of our pools overflowing with fun themes and Disney character.

I don't believe any pools at any of the hotels are strictly for use by DVC members. The only pool I know of that has restricted use is at the BC and YC.
