Default Is it worth it to switch from POR to WL?

If you already have POR, should I switch to WL since it just came open? I am really torn. I like POR very much. WL is very convenient to MK. However, it took me a long time to get POR. Now, POR is not available. Should I give it up and go with WL or just keep POR. I understand, WL has also been undergoing construction. However, I do not know what really?

I would switch. Love WL. I'm so so on POR after staying there a few times. I think most of the WL construction is done. I know for sure the pool area is complete.

Port Orleans Riverside is a beautiful resort but I would definitely go with Wilderness Lodge over that resortw.

I would switch to WL without a second of hesitation. We love WL! POR....Not so much.

I would not move. I did not like the small dark rooms or the on site food offerings. There is more bang for your buck at POR.

I'd not move either. WL gets very loud and busy with WCC dinner visitors. Riverside is much quieter and way more relaxing. I know it's crazy to want a moderate over a deluxe, but in this instance, I'd not move.

I'm another one that would definitely move to WL. POR cannot compare to WL....AT ALL.

For my family, being budget conscious, when I hear the question: "Is it worth it?" I want to know how much $$$ will the alternative cost. If the upgrade or change is only $25 extra for instance, that's an easy call. On the other hand, if the upgrade is going to cost $250 more, then I have to give the decision a lot more thought. On the third hand (if you have one) if cost is no object to you, then the question is moot. Then the only concern is: "which do I like best?"

We've never stayed at WL, but we did visit our friends who were staying there before we went out to dinner one night. They showed us their room, and DH and I were shocked at how small and dark the room looked. We didn't care for the theming at all, but I know that many people here love it. That's why Disney has so many options.

Prior to seeing their room, we had considered staying here. But, after touring the resort and seeing that dark little room (their room faced the pool), we never considered it again.

As someone else already noted, we don't care for the food offerings, either. Our one and only meal at Artist Point was pretty bad.

For what it's worth the WL rooms are much brighter since the latest refurb. I never thought the rooms were extremely dark like many others have suggested but, I did notice how much brighter the rooms seemed on my last trip.

Another vote for switching to WL. While I have never stayed at POR, I have stayed at WL a few times.

The allure of WL is not the rooms, but the resort itself. Many rooms have nice views of Bay Lake. The resort rooms enter to interior corridors and have balconies, which is nice to sit out and watch the sun rise.

You can take a boat to to MK, CR or FW and I very much enjoy the boat rides.

The appeal of the resort is that it is all in one building (except the DVC units). You also get the Electric Water Pageant every night.

What many consider the best thing about Wl is the lobby. It is truly amazing. The last time that we stayed there was at Christmas and having the tree there was incredible. There were three generations in our group and I really enjoyed drinking some hot cocoa while sitting in the lobby with my parents (now in their 70s) enjoying the fireplace, the spring or the tree. There are also a couple of fireplace nooks on each floor which are really nice places to relax.

But have a great time whatever you decide.

I agree, I think the change of carpeting and draperies makes them brighter. Also, as far as size, they are 340 sq ft so they would be about 28 sq ft larger than POR.

If you love POR than keep what you have, if you're looking for a change switch to WL. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

No, i do not think its worth the switch.
While I love W.L!! If I had a ressie for Any other resort I'd keep it. Save the money.
But when I book a deluxe....We also keep that For us, staying at a deluxe isn't a last minute thing...long time planning.

This. Once we stayed at WL for the first time, I could not get anyone in my family to agree to stay anywhere else. Whether it's a nightcap on our balcony, or just walking around the beautiful grounds, the resort truly has an incredible atmosphere. I would switch in a heartbeat.

If you do end up switching, be sure to inquire about Flag Family during your stay. It has always made our trip memorable to be part of this!

This is a hands down, flush. Just switch to WL if it is an option AT ALL! Its so much more in every category.

We've never stayed there but if it in' your budget then I'd say do it for sure! POR is a great moderate resort but you can't beat being close to MK. WL has awesome theming and recent got an update. You'll love being close to the action. Good luck!

I say go for it, as long as you are okay with the cost difference. My go to resorts each trip are POR/POFQ and this will be the first year since 2007, that I will not be staying there and switched to WL. I felt like I needed a change and I have always wanted to stay at a Deluxe but never could justify the cost. This year I will be turning 30 a few weeks after my trip... it will be my first solo trip and I have no one else to ask to put out money for it but ME, so I switched from FQ to WL real quick. You only live once. I will be there for 10 days so I plan on relaxing more and spending time at the resort.

I also love that MK is only a boat ride away!
Been there, Haven't done it all...GOING BACK!!!
