Orlando Weather Explanation
Noticing our time at WDW had a thunderstorm or two each day, basically. Does that mean rain outs or simply a quick wash?
Many thanks
Do u guys wear ponchos or is there a better solution for 93 and t-storms?
PLEASE WAIT UNTIL THE RIDE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP!!!

That's the daily forecast every day, all summer long in that area. It doesn't mean you will get a storm at all. It might storm at Epcot and you might be perfectly dry and sunny if you happen to be at the Magic Kingdom. If you do get a storm (My mantra has been - if it's 2 oclock, it must be raining though some storms have come later in the day), it can be quite intense and even dangerous (lots of lightening) but is usually quickly over.

My BIL grew up in the greater Tampa area and he said that 2pm was the golden hour for storms all up and down FL. We find that same thing where I live in Eastern NC (less than an hour in from the beaches)....But they are usually brief yet intense thunderstorms.
We pack ponchos and big gallon sized ziplock bags. The bags to put the wet ponchos into until we return to the resort and can hang them up to dry overnight.
Sometimes an outdoor ride (think Test Track or BTMRR) will close due to the amount of rain or lightening.

We've often entered a ride/show only to exit and find that a storm has come through, totally passing over in the 15-30 mins we were inside. They are also good at emptying the parks out. Find something indoors to do and ride it out.

Rain storms in the summer at WDW are actually good things, if you are prepared and don't mind getting a little wet. Wait them out and you will find that the temperature gets a little cooler, and many people leave the parks and the lines get dramatically shorter.

As posted above, they are typically just a passing shower that is brief. There are plenty of places in the parks to get out of the weather. Animal Kingdom is a bit more of a challenge than the others.
Regarding ponchos - I hate them. In the summer, when it is 90+ with 95% humidity, I find them to be miserable. We just plan accordingly and get out of the weather.

We just ride it out. In all of our trips, we've only needed ponchos twice, where the rain was longer than just a brief shower.
The storms roll through "somewhere" each afternoon, but it doesn't rain everywhere every day. Like the previous posters have said, they are often intense, but rather brief. Find something inside to do for a bit, and you'll be all set when it is over.
I do promise however, that if we try for an afternoon swim, then there is a 100% chance that it will rain at our resort.

I agree about hating ponchos. Only a few times have we ever seen it rain long enough that we actually would want them to move around. We usually just pop into the nearest store or attraction, maybe grab some food and wait it out. We've got ponchos, but im usually too lazy to carry them around!

I thought about this post while I was driving around today because it really shows how random and location base thunderstorms in Florida are.
I left my house to a heavy downpour with thunder and lightening. Less than 1/2 mile from my house misty rain and blue skies. Another mile down the road light rain. Another mile gray skies and no rain. Florida rain storms are truly crazy.

A lot of times you can also tell when the storms may be approaching even if the sky doesn't necessarily look that bad. We've noticed almost always a pretty good drop in the temp not long before a storm would roll through. So if we felt that drop we usually just made sure our plans for the next little while would take us near some cover, shops, indoor attraction, food, etc.

Yeah, I usually yell "Ain't you never taken a shower before?" as I try to get through the congestion to my next place. It's water, no big deal...

It's not the water part that bothers me . . .it's the chafing . . .
One evening after a rainy afternoon at the parks, by the time we got back to the hotel I would have paid $500 for a bottle of baby powder! Ouch!
O.O
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.
