Default Pop Century - Any Changes since 2008?

    Hi all,

As I posted in the parks thread, I am brand new to the Intercot community. I have to say that I am overwhelmed with the amount of information on this site!

My last visit to WDW was in 2008. I had visited four times from 2004 to 2008. I've stayed at Pop three of those times and Coronado Springs once. I felt most comfortable at Pop.

I am trying to get re-oriented to the WDW planning mindset. Have there been any significant changes to Pop since 2008? Has it gotten better, worse, or stayed about the same?

Thanks all. looking forward to many conversations!

    Kep

to Intercot!! We're glad you're here.

No real changes to Pop since 2008. They've kept it up nicely but nothing different other than the view across the lake. Now instead of a ghost town you have Art of Animation to look at.

As Strmchsr has said no big changes except that all of the rooms have mini fridges. That makes it really nice.

We will be there the first of Sept during Labor day week..

Thank you Strmchsr and Itchy! I am glad the ghost hotel is gone. That looked like something out of the Twlight Zone.

Wait! The rooms all have mini fridges now?! Awesome! Do they still have the Peace-o-Pizzamobile?

The Art of Animation Resort has opened, offering more walking/jogging opportunities as well as another food court within (sorta) walking distance.

They have renovated the rooms since 2008. And the tie dye cheesecake is still sold but it comes in a plastic cup.

And the "bottled" tie dye cheesecake is nowhere near as good as it used to be when it was an actual slice of a cheesecake. We were very disappointed at that the last time we visited 3 years ago. Sad to hear it is still in "a can".

That's sad to hear about the cheesecake. That was one of the little things I always looked forward to there. Dang.

Good to hear about the renovated rooms. Are the walls still thin and do the turbo toilets still threaten to **** down the time-space continuum?

We have been staying at POP since it opened. It seems to be kept up very nicely! At the All-Sports, Music, Movies I don't think they have aged as well.

We don't eat in the food court much but it isn't as good as it used to be. AoA is a short walk and a lot better choices.

    Have a great time!

Thin walls, horrible towels and those toliets are the same. Beds are comfortable and pillows aren't hard like they were. But you get what you pay for. We aren't in room much, so value Disney lodging is worth it for me since I go a few times a year.

Cheesecake not as good but the chocolate cake in the little cups and the carrot cake are both good. Same cakes they have at all the resorts.

I'm in the same boat as you....I haven't been to Pop since 2009. So, I have been doing my research also. This is what I have found:
They have painted a wall a greenish blue color in the room. And possibly have taken down the border. I think the border is gone but I'm not sure. The dressers are new and much smaller. Only three drawers are in these new dressers, if I remember correctly. They now have a fridge in all rooms...in the dresser. There are some new TVs also. Then the comforters are gone. They have taken them and made a runner type thing out of them that sits on the end of the bed. Far as I can tell, there is no blanket, only white sheets. I am bringing blankets. I think that is it for the inside of the rooms. To get into the room, the card key is gone and you now use the magic band.
I think that if you do online check in, all resorts now send you a text with your room number and you can bypass the front desk.
There are supposed to be new washers and dryers that can be run from credit instead of change. And you are supposed to get a text when the cycle is finished.
One thing I am hoping for are the new boards that display the bus times.
And I think Pop might have a movie and fire pit now. I am going to be looking into that soon.
Also, I have read the food court menu has changed and not many are happy. The refillable mugs now have chips in them that only allows a refill every few minutes.
    I think that is it.

The opening of Art of Animation was a big change to me. We stayed in 2012, right when it opened, and it was like having two resorts for the price of one, at which to eat, shop, and explore. You aren't allowed to swim there though, but as you know, Pop has great pools.

I'm disappointed to hear about the change to the cheesecake. It must have happened after our 2012 stay, as we still enjoyed the sliced version.

There is a blanket - same color as sheets. No bus boards. And the movie is in the pool area. Glad to hear about the washer and dryers. I didn't use those when I went in April.

The blanket is actually sandwiched between two white flat sheets.

I think the top layers a really thin duvet cover that replaced the pattern cover that used to be on the bed. I like the layers. Not too hot. I just wish the values had ceiling fans.
