Mary Poppins Dark Ride in UK at Epcot
I saw a rumor online saying there are plans for a Mary Poppins dark ride (similar in scale to the Alice in Wonderland dark ride in Disneyland) - to be built in the UK at Epcot - and Disney will wait to see how the new Mary Poppins movie will perform this December - and will move forward if it's a hit and open the ride as one of the 50 "new things" planned for the 50th anniversary of WDW in 2021.
Sounds far-fetched to me - but slightly believable because Disney knows Epcot needs more kid stuff and the popularity of Frozen Ever After is still exceeding their predictions.
Anyone else hear about this rumor?

Would love that to happen. But I'm not optimistic. Too many other projects on the books right now at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Maybe way, way, way down the road they would do it. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE it but I don't get my hopes up very easily with Disney these days. Is there anyone smarter than me with a map able to see if there's enough space around the UK pavilion for a show building etc.?

There have been rumors of a dark ride in the UK almost since Epcot opened. Mary Poppins and Alice have been the two themes that come up most often. There is some room back there for a show building, but not an extensive one. Unless, of course, Disney decided to remove the World Showplace "temporary" structure they build back there for the Millennial Celebration almost 20 years ago. If they did that, there would be enough space to do pretty much anything.
But, like Carolyn, I wouldn't expect to see anything happen there for several years. Not until after the 50th. It could be a part of the talked about total redo of Epcot. Whenever that happens.

What, non star wars or marvel? Good luck. I love the dark rides, and wish more of them were either still around or new ones built. Not everything needs to jostle me around or be in 3d.

Like Fanghorn said, if they removed the World Showplace (which was supposed to be temporary in the first place) there would be all sorts of room.
Looking at Google earth they could also probably squeeze a small attraction in, if they removed the courtyard and stage where British Revolution plays As well as what looks like a back stage service road.

I'd like to bulldoze Morroco and put something Polynesian (Maui) else, Have a Aussie/Kiwi section.

This was one of the original dark rides proposed for the MK when it was in its planning phase. It was scrapped when Roy took over as he wanted established attractions that had a proven track record as opposed to new ones that may not work. So, instead of a Mary Popppins attraction we received a clone of the Peter Pan's Flight. So, all they would really need to do is blow off the dust on the original idea, update it and build it. Right now, all I have heard are distant rumblings so if it is being considered it is well behind other ideas that are much more profile. But I agree with the other poster, if the Mary Poppins Returns is a success, you may hear more about it.

Aw really? Don't bulldoze it! I love the Morocco Pavilion - so many back alleys and twists and turns... it feels authentic!
There's actually enough space in World Showcase to build a bunch more pavilions without having to bulldoze anything. Most of the current pavilions have blank pads of land in between each of them so you can cram in a Polynesian/South Pacific land in there, as well as your Australian Outback. (Mmm Bloomin' Onions... hahaha)
I would also like to see another African pavilion (other than Morocco), not just the outpost. Similar to Harambe at Animal Kingdom with the culture, artwork and architecture and food but modelled after a REAL country, not a fictional one. That would be awesome.

I agree, and I love the food there. Now if They were to add a country, I would like to see a South American one. Perhaps Chile?
