Trip Canceled. :sob:
We have canceled our December trip to Walt Disney World. We were so looking forward to being there as a family for the first time in five years, and for the first time in a LONG time during the Christmas season.
We have canceled due to COVID. None of us have it, but we want to keep it that way. My wife is a general surgeon (who specializes in breast cancer), and she really can't quarantine if she doesn't have it (which she would have to do at the end of this trip), and if she did get it and accidentally transmitted it to any of her patients (who are fighting cancer) it would be devastating personally, professionally, and financially. So, this is really a no-brainer. Especially with a vaccine so close on the horizon. She should be among the first to be vaccinated as a front line worker (She is on-call for the ER a lot, and so deals with COVID positive patients).
We have a trip planned in May, and so we are super excited for that. Disappointed to not be going in December, but also relieved. I know that Disney has taken all the precautions that they can, but the stress of possibly getting it would definitely put a damper on things.

Keep your spirits up. By this time next year we should (hopefully) be well into vaccinations against this virus and (again, hopefully) be well on our way to a new 'normal.'
Please thank your wife for being on the front lines of this, and I hope and pray that she, and your entire family, stay safe and healthy throughout.

Sorry about your missed trip but, from what you describe, it is probably for the best.

So many of us Disney Diehards cancelled/rescheduled/cancelled trips. Everytime I see a Disney Parks commercial I get teary 😿 eyed. Now I'm rescheduled for end of September 2021 at Polynesian Resort. I've never been at this resort so I'm hoping it reopens in the summer like they are projecting. Here's to the vaccines on the way 🥂 and 2021!!!!

I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip. It is a let down. Often times, people don't realize how much healthcare providers and their families sacrifice for their patients.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I don't think I ever followed up on this. Just as an FYI, my wife's hospital started vaccinating the doctors and staff the week we would have been gone. So, had we gone, she would have missed it. Now, she has received both shots, and so with the vaccination, and still taking precautions, we don't have any fear that she could catch it and pass it to a patient.
We have a trip planned for late May, and we're so excited now. Hopefully, by then, I'll also be vaccinated, as I work at a state university in a teaching unit. Here in Virginia, that puts me in Phase 2 of the rollout, and we're finishing up Phase 1 starting this week.

Correction: I'm in phase 1c. We're currently in phase 1b of the rollout, which will include grocery store employees (my son). My oldest daughter (food services) and I will be in phase 1c. I imagine that will happen in March. So, by the time our late May trip rolls around, everyone in my family will be vaccinated except for possibly my 16 year old high school student.
