Regular Park Hopper tickets came in 4 and 5 day varieties. You could change parks between multiple parks on the same day. Any unused days on these tickets never expired.
You could also get Park Hopper Plus tickets that had the same characteristics as Park Hopper Tickets except they came in 5, 6 or 7 day lengths and you also got Plus options to go to the water parks and Pleasure Island based on the number of days on your ticket.
Magic Your Way base tickets are available from 1 to 10 days in length. The base tickets are good for one-park per day and expire 14-days after their first use.
You can add park hopping abilities to your Magic Your Way base tickets for an additional cost. You can add non-expiration to your Magic Your Way base tickets for an additional cost. You can add Plus options to your MYW base ticket for an additional cost. These features are available in any combination depending on how much you wish to pay and your needs.
Here's some information from info central on the Magic Your Way tickets including the costs for the various features.
In essence the MYW ticket is a base ticket that lets you choose the options that you want to add to the ticket, so you aren't buying something that is pre-packaged that you won't use or don't need. IMHO they are great - choose what you want for options, compare the cost of options, and you get some really good savings for the 6th and 7th, etc days as you add on days. You can even go back after you started using the tickets and add an option if you so desire - but you pay for the option for the full length of the tickets.
This is an nice option if your trip gets cut short. You could go back (before they expire) and add on the no expiration option and then the unused days on the ticket will always be good.
Honor the past, challenge the present, plan for the future. DVC Owner, WDW 16 trips, DL 5 trips.
