There is a real need for table service restaurants in this park! I'm glad to see at least one (I'm not counting Rainforest as it is outside the gates).

Too funny!
My DS said they should name the restaurant Ralphs Yak!
but Yak'n Yetti sounds pretty funny too!

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!

I know what a yak is. And I know what TO yak is. I am not a fan of the name AT all. it makes me wonder if they will paint it blue (for those of you not familiar with interior design - you almost NEVER paint a restaurant blue.)

I think Disney is doing a HORRIBLE job at keeping us updated on the official opening date.
You would think if it was still planned to open sometime this year, they would inform us so we can make ADRs, atleast 180 days before the date...
It is nice to hear that they are providing us a new dining location, but I am pretty sure it won't be on the DDP plan...since it is owned by Landry.
SO part of me is excited for something new and another part is disappointed at AK options while on the DDP.

Okay, I have to ask. Why wouldn't you paint a restaurant blue?
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm almost positive it's due to the fact that certain colors (like blue and green) promote relaxation and lack of appetite, whereas other colors (like earth tones and red and yellow) tend to make us more hungry. Take a look at most restaurant signs and there's very few that aren't at least some shade of red. The only restaurant with a (predominantly) blue sign I can think of off the top of my head is Long John Silvers and they're switching more to a different color scheme these days.
Also, when do you think they're going to start accepting ADRs for this? I'm planning on going over (college) spring break and would love to try this place.

We were at AK on Thursday, and were watching some artists doing some of the decorative work on the exterior. The place is looking very good, and fitting right in with the theme of the area.
Interesting that they picked November 14th. That's the same date that the Orlando IKEA store is opening. (Apparently nobody told IKEA, which includes a few restaurants inside the store, about the blue paint job being a no-no. )

The Yak & Yeti will open as scheduled on Wednesday, November 14th. There will be no soft opening, but area cast members will be eating a free lunch there on Monday and Tuesday as the restaurant staff gets up to speed.
For those still wondering where the name comes from, get out your city guide map to Kathmandu, the capitol city of Nepal. Look there for the Hotel Yak & Yeti, a deluxe hotel built in the mid-1970s on the grounds of a 100 year old palace. The hotel is a showcase for the cultural heritage of the area, and features a spectacular view of the Himalayas. Just as Disney's Yak & Yeti offers a spectacular view of the Forbidden Mountain, home of Expedition Everest.

Ron, have you seen a menu or gotten any scuttlebutt about it?

Haven't seen a menu yet, Ed. But I understand it will have an Asian theme. The Y & Y opening team has been sharing our break room at Kali until theirs is ready. They have been coming in at lunchtime with oriental restaurant style carryout containers filled with egg rolls and noodle dishes. They didn't offer to share, but it smells great. Makes my peanut butter sandwiches look pretty bad.
I have heard they are not taking ADR's yet. No word among the cast as to when they will start.

Todays news: Ressies opening up on Dec. 3 for seatings opening Jan 4. Walk=ups will be available before that, but no reserverations accepted.

I haven't seen it posted here yet but another (reputable) website is reporting (what appears to be straight from a Disney press release) the menu and hours.
Strangely, they list dinner as 4pm to park close. Since I'm pretty sure Animal Kingdom closes at 5 or 6 all the time, people better make sure to get those ADR's in. There's going to be, like, one seating a night.
If anything, maybe a late ADR will give folks a chance to see AK lit up at night. (How early does the sun go down in Orlando this time of year? It's dark by 5 here, but we're surrounded by mountains.)

Finally, confirmation this restaurant will ever actually open. Is the posted menu for the table service portion? I thought Yak & Yeti will also have a counter service section.
Anyway, thanks for the update, Jason. I love Asian food, so I'm excited for the initial reviews.

We inquired at Guest Services at AK yesterday, and were told what has already been reported here; walk ups will start on 11/14. They also had some details about what will be on the menu, but nothing we could print and bring along. We will be trying to eat there before we leave on 11/17. We also heard (from a cast member) there will be a soft opening for Tusker House, starting on 11/15.

Sounds great! I'm definately going to give it a shot next Monday for a CS lunch, so I'll report back when I'm back from Thanksgiving.
