First, I have a very good friend whose parents are from Hong Kong. His name in English is pronounced "Chick" but his parents decided to give him an American name when they came to the U.S. so they named him "Ken." When they registered him for school, they wrote his name this way: Chick Ken Lee. --I feel a little guilty sharing that!

Also, where I work, we have a rack with time card with our names on it so that we can punch a clock to get paid. Sometimes we arrange them in a humorous way, such as putting

At my previous job we had a patient named "Horace Sweat". Ewh! I'll bet he was teased when he was a kid!

We also had another patient named "Anita Hooker". It didn't dawn on me until I said out loud one day... "I need Anita Hooker" when I was looking for her chart. I busted up laughing when I said her name our loud! Poor gal!

My 9yo son would love to meet him He's a Captain America fan so he would find that fascinating.

When I worked for a Dr's office I came across some unusual names. Unusual to me anyways. I thought they were kind of neat so I named my pets after them. The first was Umbria Gooch. The second was Boots Proctor. I just love those names.

I have another Richard one... I worked with a guy whose last name was Pfister (silent 'p'), first name Richard, and he used the nickname.

Also had a elementary school art teacher named Mr. Dick whose first name was Harold, also used nickname.

I always wonder why people that don't go by middle names, full names, something?

That is a famous "urban legend" that can be found dispelled on snopes.

Any way.......I live in Houston, with a population in the surrounding areas of about 5 million people. Last week my wife and I were discussing funny names and I told her about a guy I knew in middle school (30 years ago!) named Sterling McSwine. Looking in the Houston Chronicle obits this week, I see his father, Sterling McSwine passed away. Weird.

In Basic Training at Ft Bliss in '85, we had a Native American guy who was about 6'8" and 300 pounds. His last name was LIttlewhiteman. He came on the buddy system with another Native American who was about 5' 3" named LLoyd Stayathome. Of course, the Drill Sgts always asked him why he didnt. We also had a Private Sargent.

I knew fraternal twins (male/female) in high school named Jack and Jackie Hoff.

I work with a police officer named Johnny Law

I have a friend who has some issues which required him to see a proctolgist. The HMO gave him a referral to see Dr. Reggie Thompson. He was worried for three days that he was going to see a retired offensive lineman and contemplated backing out of the appointment (no pun intended). Reggie was short for Regina, a smallish, blonde female.

Oh my gosh! I was going to post this! When I worked as a pediatric RN at a chiildren's hospital in Delaware I actually took care of twin boys whose names were "Orangelo" and "Limeagelo" (not Lemon)! They were the talk of the unit, we could not believe this mom would actually name her kids this.

Also, last year when my son broke his wrist his orthopedic doctor was Dr. Bohn.(pronounced "BONE").

My sister had this basketball coach named Harry Wolfe.

I won't post it, but my maiden last name along with my first name made many many people do double take.

I was well known in my little town I grew up in, just because of my name. I think most adults felt very sorry for me. At least no one seemed to ever forget my name .

In college, I sat next to a guy in Biology named Dusty Rhodes.

In a town near where I live, there was a family of morticians whose last name was Deadman prounounced Deadmon.
They owned a funeral home officially named for the town - Manchester Funeral Home, but known as Deadman's Funeral home.

Although I am totally enjoying this thread, again I must ask the obvious . . . What are parents thinking when they name their children?? I can't imagine that name is pleasant in ANY language!

I used to work with a girl named Candy Kiss. Her sister's name is Taffy.

My roommate in college always called her parents Ken and Barbie. I always thought she was kidding until I met them. They introduced themselves and I started laughing. I thought Kris had put them up to it. It turns out that those were their real names.

My parent were stationed in Germany when I was in college. I would go visit them over Christmas break and Summer break. Once, when I had extreme jet lag that coincided with my parents office party, I was introduced to King Kong. He was a short Asian man who was very nice. The next day, I found out his name was Ken Kahn.

I knew a lady whose name was Debbie Strange. She married Dan Bunch. She hyphenated her name (WHY?) and became Debbie Strange-Bunch.
