A great ride! You are taken up in one lift, and your "car" leaves the elevator to travel a little ways to the lift that does all the drops. The drops are random in number and distance, but are very smooth. You wear a seatbelt, which is a lot better than the lapbars they used to have for each row in the "car." The drops are very fast, and the series does not last really long. I'd recommend at least giving the ride a try. I wasn't sure about it the first time I rode it, and now I'm hooked!

My husband and I LOVE "The Tower of Terror!"
It's one of our favorites at MGM, soon to be Hollywood Studios. We'll be in Disney in 3 days. Can't wait to get on it!!!

Try putting your arms up in the air and screaming.....LOUDLY...when you feel apprehensive or nervous or scared, and during the drop. DF and I did this and we were laughing so hard we were crying by the end of the ride. And then we did it again, and again, and again, and again......

Disney calls them drops but since it is motorized, it really isn't a drop. The car moves up and down the shaft at different intervals each time the ride is launched.

The cars move up and down so smoothly that is hard not to enjoy the ride. The seat belts hold a person into the seat so there is no way to fall out but allow enough room for airtime if you don't hold on.

When I was there September, I was out of my seat for a while because I let go and the way the car went allowed me to be basically weightless for a short period.

Just relax... I have been on many freefall rides and those actually make me feel queasy while this ride actually is enjoyable.

One more question. Is it true that you can hold a penny, and on the drop, it will float? Or is that a ride at Universal?

And this is a huge difference to me. I do not like the feeling of falling forward.

If you like the little feeling of weighlessness you get on roller coaster 'hops', then you will LOVE TOT. This is the best 'air time' at DW!

I'm an adrenaline junkie, and TOT is the only ride at DW that will get my adrenaline pumping a bit.

If you don't like weightlessness, or have trouble with motion sickness - then this is probably not the ride for you.

However, even if you're not going to ride the ride, I would strongly recommend at least going through the 'hotel' and up to the loading area. When you get there, just tell the CM that you decided not to ride, and they'll take you out the back way. The theming of this ride is absolutely incredible, and not to be missed!

It really is different every time. The first time I was terrified in anticipation, but loved the weightless feeling of the drop. THe second trip I didn't enjoy it as much. There were more shorter drops and it felt jerky and less pleasant. I am a big chicken and don't like drops as a rule, but I would still recommend that you try it once. As has been said, if you hate it, it is over very quickly. Now the only one I haven't tried is RR, but I just can't seem to get myself to do that one yet!!

That's something I might have to try next time I go, LOL.

I rode it once and that was enough for me. The drop was just too intense for my taste. If I could ride it and get off right before the drop, I would! Everyone should give it a try.

I have never been on this ride before, but I have heard a lot of good and bad things about it. Can someone maybe give an overview of the ride? I think that most of it is dropping... but is there an actually "ride" part, or do you just drop the whole time? Also, is the drop worse than Splash Mountain, the same, or better (haha)? Splash Mountain bothers me a little bit, however Expedition Everest doesn't bother me at all. Any help you could give would be much appriciated! I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I want to make sure I would enjoy it before I ride it! Thanks!

I personally don't like typical "free-fall rides AT ALL. Especially those that your feet are dangleing and you are just strapped in, however I have no problem with ToT. I think it is because it is mostly enclosed and you don't see the outside for the entire drop. I think it feels much more secure and it doesn't scare me as much. You really only see the outside when you at the top of the ride, right before they drop you, and the rest is in the shaft. If seeing that you are falling really bothers you, like it does me, that you might have an easier time at ToT.

Yes, my kids have tried this and it works! This last trip, our digital camera around my neck was floating up at eye-level at one point and its not all that lightweight. My favorite part of the ride is the airtime and feeling of weightlessness. I was apprehensive on our first trip as a family, but after we all tried it, it instantly became one of our favorites in all of WDW. Try it!

    Default I'm a recovering acrophobe...

I'm getting tense just reading the reviews of the ride. My hands are getting all clammy.

I'm normally pretty good with rides, but something about TOT just causes me to get really anxious and have anxiety attacks.

The closest I've been to riding was at DLR (I know that one doesn't have the ride through like in WDW according to my fiance). I made it all the way up to the loading part by the elevator shaft.

The intro was great! I've always been a huge fan of the Twilight Zone. I thought I would've been able to ride it, but I just get so anxious. I started breathing all heavily and was scared that I'd have a heart attack on the ride (I still have issues riding Splash Mountain and going up the lift hill -- I've contemplated the pace of the boat and if I could jump to that side ramp a few times to get out...) I started making other people around us weary.

Well, anyways, I had to ask the "bellhop" where the exit was. He actually broke character -- I think he felt so bad for me. I was sobbing in the gift shop as I waited for my fiance. I think people thought I was nuts!

I've been fine with SM -- I think the darkness. I haven't tried RNR or M:S or EE. I want to try the last two in April. I still get queesy after BTM. But, I hope to one day conquer my fear of TOT. I'm seriously considering hypnotism (I have a friend who knows a hypnotist...)
