    Default Dollywood questions

My family of three is planning a trip to Gatlinburg in July and have worked in one day to visit Dollywood. This will be our first trip to Dollywood and are going there on Moday, June 14th. As a Disney fanatic, I am all about planning ahead, tips and tricks to beat lines, and looking for overlooked gems.

Anyone been to Dollywood on a weekday in mid July with any pitfalls to be wary of? Any general park strategies? Or am I just taking my Disney style planning to far?

    Thanks a ton in advance!

I've only been once recently - the first time in 25+ years. It has changed dramatically since it was Silver Dollar City!

Anyway, I would continue your planning. Gatlinburg can get crowded anytime of year. Dollywood has some neat online resources so you know what to look for. I don't remember any crazy lines except on the new ride (Mystery Mine) which was actually a lot like a Disney attraction. Crowds seemed to follow the usual patterns - short lines during meals and big shows, etc. So get schedules and eat at off times.

I don't really know what crowd sizes will be like that time of year - I went in late May last year. Hopefully someone can provide specifics on that.

From my experience (growing up in Gatlinburg area) & going during the summer - July is going to be packed.

My thoughts on Dollywood are make time for the shows! I think hopeful Nashville Stars work there because the shows are great! The rides are fun, too! My view of Dollywood was changed when I first went years ago. Whatever you do, have a great time!

    Default Dollywood wait times

I just spoke to my wife. She said the longest they had to wait was about 30 minutes. Most major rides were 15-20 minutes wait. I think WDW is the only place you need to plan for, but you should always try and ride the most popular ride first in my opinion.

My friend calls Dollywood "Disney in the Smokies." That's an accurate description. They have great rides and one of my favorite wooden coasters, Thunderhead. It's so fast and the seats are very comfy!

If you visit Dollywood, consider investing in their Fastpass system, Q2Q. It costs around $6-$8 per person, making it a great investment on a busy day.
