Shania Twain. Nice to look at. Awful to listen to.

Personal songs I turn off immediately:

    C'mon Eileen
    I would walk 500 miles

My wife reaches for the dial when "Umbrella" comes on. The kids and I know we can always get her riled up by putting on that song.

Delilah by The Plain White Ts and Beautiful by James Blount are the two sappiest, whimpiest songs ever sung by a man.

Great post idea and great responses! I think mine have all been mentioned. Story-telling bar-ballads like "Piano Man", or "Taxi" are perfect examples of beloved anthems, that are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

I also agree with the bewilderment over the Springsteen following. I believe that started with media hype 3 decades ago, and just kept on going.

Piano Man is pure genius. The lyrics and piano are incredible. I think it is an all time classic.

    I simply cannot deal with:

American Pie- Don McClean, I have to shut this off as soon as the intro comes on. Hate this song!

I agree with Big Yellow Taxi, You Can Call me Al, Jack & Diane, Don't Worry Be Happy. Those are all equally as annoying.

Also Jordin Sparks music gets to me. Way overplayed.

How about Werewolves of London, I Want You to Want Me, and Baby Love?
