    Default What about a hat?

Wearing a hat in the August heat at Disney World is advised. I am not used to the heat and humidity and do not do well in heat. But I am also not used to wearing a hat and normally do not prefer something on my head. Do you all think I need one and what type of hat do you wear/recommend. I do not mind buying one at Disney. Thank you, Aunt Kari

I was in the same boat. However, with strong encouragement from my dermatologist, I decided to change. I splurged and bought a Tilley. Love it--it has a drawstring to keep it on in those summer T-storms(it also helps in my Miata). Check their website--you wont be sorry.

I noticed that they wear the same model in the Canadian Pavillion

    Thanks

A Tilley is the best! They come in every style!

They are a bit on the expensive side, so I would recommend anything that covers your ears and back of your neck, along with your face to reduce the chance of sunburn.

I don't wear a hat on a regular basis, but wouldn't dream of going to Disney without one...even a Disney baseball cap is better than nothing

Hats are good for sun protection, but they should breathe (let lots of air through) otherwise they will make you hotter. Your body cools a lot by releasing heat through the head. That's why you wear a hat in winter to keep your body warmer.

Get a hat with sun and UV protection, but that is designed to let air circulate. Skin cancer is worse than being hot, so a hat is a good idea, even in really hot weather.

I don't ever wear a hat except for at WDW. The sun is so strong and you are in it all day. Even sunglasses weren't enough to block those rays so, I found the visor of a ball cap in addition to sunglasses to be quite helpful. I get headaches quite often from too much sun and this helps.

I usaually wear a baseball cap mostly to help keep sun out of my eyes and because I have really short hair and don't like it when the top of my head gets sunburned. It can be a little bit of a pain on some rides having to take it off.

I usually start out wearing a hat, but I get tired of it. But, when I wear it, it is a baseball cap. I got this really pretty pink and brown bambi cap from the disney store a few years ago and it is silky and lightweight. I like baseball caps like that because if you have long hair, you can put it in a ponytail and pull it through the hat, so it doesn't come off.

I always wear a visor when I go to WDW to keep the sun out of my eyes. I don't like a ballcap because it is so hot. The visor also helps when it rains, no water on my eyeglasses so I can see.

I wear a hat maybe 2 times a year... only if I am out in the sun for a long period of time. Last year my boyfriend bought me an adidas baseball cap that is a mesh material that breathes very well. It's suppossed to be cooling and also have UV protection. I love the hat. All the other ones I have ever worn have made me so hot and made my head so sweaty. I would definitely look for one that says it's cooling and has UV protection.

    Thumbs up

I always wear a hat, cap or sunvisor. Just recently I received an Intercot cap that I'm anxious to wear next trip.

I don't wear hats. I have a really big head( to hold all my brains!) wearing a hat makes my head hot, it gives me a headache.
I also don't like the sun
I have had melanoma so sunning is out of the question!
I have found that carrying an umbrella is a really great option.
It keeps the sun off me
    It keeps me cool
It keeps the rain off me
It's easy to collapse when going on rides or into shows.
It doesn't mess up your hair.
The most important thing is to keep the sun off you and keep cool! Whatever option works best go for it.

DH has one just like the Tilley hats he got at AK and he loves it. He wouoldn't think about going to a park without it and he hardly ever wears a hat.

I always wear a lightweight white or light-colored baseball-style hat. The top of my head also sunburns easily. For me, it's no hotter to have the cap on than it is to have the sun beating down and frying the top of my delicate little head.

DH bought a Tilley and loves it. It has UV protective liner also. I used to wear a ballcap instead of one with a wide brim but don't like how it gives me hat-head and I look terrible when I take it off in restaurants, etc. So last year I started wearing my visor and it works a lot better and keeps the sun off my face. This doesn't keep it off the top of my head but I don't generally wear a hat anyway. I have two Disney ballcaps and will take them this time along with my visor and will decide what to wear according to how hot it is on a particular day.

I wore a visor on this last trip and preferred it to ball caps. If you need your scalp covered, try to get a cap with either netting in the back or a high performance lightweight cap from a sporting goods store that will breathe

The kids won't wear hats so we opted for the bandanas to cover their heads and if they get too warm we just wet them in a fountain or bathroom and they wear them damp and seem real comfortable. I wear a lite cotton baseball cap and than I don't have to wear my sunglasses to keep the sun out of my eyes. The bandanas work well because I put them on like a pirtate would wear and the kids are cool with it.
