    Default Are we insane?

We had a whole trip planned for Christmas break...THEN airfare prices were posted and whoa...it was gonna be a fortune for airfare and the thought of those high crowds were getting to me.

So, I realize my daughter's birthday is on a Thursday, that we could fly out on Wed. night and be there for her birthday, stay through the weekend and return home on Sunday.

So, this will mean that my daughter misses two days of school. I am a teacher, so I'll be taking two personal days.

Part of me is feeling guilty, but the other part is excited because it's our chance to stay at a Deluxe and take advantage of lower crowds! You only turn seven once, right?

I'm imagining picking her up from school Wednesday, surprising her with a little package to open that has some little Disney item inside with a note that says "Let's go!"

It's only 2 days missed, right? We've NEVER been at a low crowd time or at the Holiday time...

    What would you do?

I wouldn't hesitate to do that at all! She's only missing 2 days of school and the experience she will have will be SO memorable for her. Don't feel guilty! Besides, at only being 7, she's in 2nd grade? She won't miss too terribly much - better than if they are in middle or high school - much harder to make up work. But I'd say go for it!!!

    I wouldn't worry either. She's only 7 once!!
Dec. is a great time to go, you'll love it!!!
We are taking our niece with us in Dec. and she'll miss three days. She's a senior. I told her her grades had to be really good.

    Thumbs up I'm a teacher and ...

I'm doing the EXACT same thing!

We had a trip booked for the week leading up to Christmas (we'll already be on Winter Break) but I got a pin code for free dining that includes the first 2 weeks of December.

We booked a trip for Wed-Sun and I'll need to take 3 personal days. My son will also miss 3 days of school.

I'm also excited because we get to see WDW all dressed up for the holidays, we get to attend MVMCP, we have free dining, we should have lighter crowds, AND our airfare was much less than anticipated!

    We are so excited!

    Go and have fun!

You guys are awesome! I just needed to hear it!

You all are right...It's only 2 days! Just thinking that the non-Disney fanatics will really think I'm insane at work...but then again, they already do when they say "Why do you go EVERY year?" "Don't you get tired of it?" lol

    Go!

It's the last two days before break. None of the kids have their head in class anyway.

Cheaper airfare + lower crowd levels = great trip

I agree if your daughter is young enough that it won't hurt her classes, by all means take the two days and go....

And in answer to your initial question..... everyone of us on here is insane. Mark

I'm also a teacher and I say go for it. This will be the 5th year in a row that I've pulled my kids for a Labor Day week trip. They miss 4 days of school and it's NEVER been a problem. The memories created during your trip will far exceed what your daughter misses in school those two days! ENJOY and feel NO GUILT!!!

    54 days!

I'm also of the camp that kids CAN get an education with Mom and Dad - not ALL learning has to take place in school.

I'm not school-bashing, and I don't take my kids for 2 weeks out of school every year, but that sounds like a well thought out, loving, and fun idea. I don't think it's irresponsible or fickle - just AWESOME!

(If you feel TOO guilty, have her take some pictures and write a paragraph or make a picture slide show...!? That could be fun, too.!)

    Have fun, guys!

P.S. - I did see some cheap airfares on Southwest around Christmas. The days and times were VERY limited, but I found my aunt a flight to our neck of the woods for the same price as we found for our upcoming Orlando trip in Dec - $55 each way! Anyone who's not as restricted on dates might want to check it out - if you're flexible, the rates can be GREAT!
