Default Disney with a child with a broken arm

Well, we leave for WDW in four days and our almost 4-year-old fractured her elbow yesterday. We are still planning on flying out Thursday morning, provided she is put in a hard cast by then. Has anyone done Disney with a child with a broken arm? I would appreciate any advice or helpful hints so that we can plan accordingly. TIA!

My son (11) broke his wrist right before our trip last year, and I was a little concerned that he might be prohibited from going on some of the rides with a cast. However, it was a good experience. He got lots of attention from cm's and he rode everything he wanted. He even got Mickey to autograph his cast!

I think you just need to evaluate how she's feeling and avoid anything that might aggravate her arm. The good thing is that most attractions at WDW are relatively mild.

    Have a fun trip!

Take a few plastic trash bags to wrap the cast in case of rain and for bathing. We went a few years ago after my DD broke her ankle and this worked great for us. We cleared everything with her Ortho Surgeon before we left.

    Default Been there, done that

Our son broke his arm when he was 5. We went to Disney and he had no trouble. Granted it was January and too cold to swim which helped. We took some bags to cover the cast if it rained. We took his sling with us too so it wouldn't be bumped around too much. He had a great time and did get a lot of attention from CM's and characters.

When my son was 8 he broke his arm a week before our Disney trip. He was in a cast past his elbow. He was able to go on every ride (we did clear it with his doctor before we went). He went on all of the roller coasters (even RNR). On Splash Mountain we just put his arm in a bag to make sure it didn't get wet. He did get a lot of attention from CM and every character we met signed his cast.

Just a bit of advice. Get the waterproof cast. It's a little bit extra, but soooooo nice to be able to bathe and swim!

Also... just an FYI... press and seal plastic wrap also works great for keeping casts dry and a lot less bulky than a bag!

Good luck with the arm and have fun on your trip!

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far! I think I will go with the waterproof cast even though they still won't let her shower in it if it's above the elbow - and we'll bring the plastic wrap too! Going to the doctor today, so we should find out if this trip is even going to happen for sure. Wish us luck!

You might also want to consider bringing along the Children's Tylenol. When my DD broke her arm she had a habit of hitting her arm on something and causing it to hurt. If she begins to hurt, then you can give her a dose before it gets too bad and she can continue having fun!

Oh, I forgot to add, bring a sling. The cast will get heavy after a long day. My son broke his elbow when he was 3 and then broke both of the bones in his forearm when he was 6. The short cast was easy, but the elbow they set with a bend in it and it got REALLY heavy!

We did WDW with a leg in a cast. We still had a blast!

    I'll share my daughter's perspective...

"Either way, I am in a cast. I'd rather be in a cast at WDW than anywhere else."

Deal with the cast and have FUN!
