    Default Adult Swap???

I know how child/baby swap works. I am wondering how things work for parents with one or an odd number of children.

    Example: Dumbo Ride
Three of us cannot fit. If my DD wants to ride with both my wife and I, how do you do it?

    1. DW and DD ride. Once DD is of, she and I can get back in line.
    2. DW and DD get in line. I get in line 10-15 minutes later. DD joins me in line when she is off. Kind of "cutting in line" but not really since I would occupy a ride spot anyway.
    3. Are there other ways to be able to do this without causing loss of time or angst from other guests?

The theory behind the baby swap is that the child "cannot" ride and must be left behind and cared for...thus the parents can take turns.

In this case...the child CAN ride. In the case of "2 seaters"...all three can ride. Just one parent next to the child and the other parent right in front or behind. Next two seater the other parent get the child.

That's just the way it goes. Ya'll parents will ride at the same time...you'll just have to take turns who gets to sit by your DD. Then of course if your DD is anything like my DS...he finds a "friend" while standing in line and ya'll parents are on your own while he rides with the "friend".

....uhmmmm.....don't think that's gonna work out for you....Dumbo is a very popular ride, even during slow times, so I don't think it's fair to those standing in line legit to have you do that .... plus, discussing "cheating" here is stricltly prohibited....

First off, I am not cheating or looking to cheat the system. Disney, technically, has no policy on it and they do not police it. Therefore, it is up to each guest to respect the others. I was looking for what others do. The reason I ask is there is another site, The Unofficial Guide to WDW, that specifically states: have mom get in line with child and dad get in line 24 or so people back. Then the child can ride with mom and then with dad.

I am on the fence on this one. I am one that is against line cutting. I hate when I see one person in line and 10 others jump in line with them 15 minutes later. But in this example, if I were to go alone, the same ride "vehicle" would still be occupied and no one is any worse off in the line. Now, if this were Triceratops Spin, DW & DD would be in front and me in back.

I agree that you never presented your question as a way around something. Please don't jump to conclusions folks!

In my experience, the Unofficial Guide offers a few "suspect" suggestions for making one's way through Disney (another one being to make multiple ADRs each day to keep your options open!! ).

Although it is not disallowed, I think one could expect a few comments and nasty looks for passing a child back through the line. Even though the child is not changing the wait time for the other guests ONE IOTA ... the perception is that there is line cutting going on. I would choose to either all ride together, or to wait in line a second time with the child....Dumbo is an exceptionally popular ride and tempers rise quickly!

I agree that since you are not taking away a car from someone else, I wouldn't have a problem with seeing someone do it. However, do you really want to hear the little girl behind you say "Daddy how come she gets to ride twice?"

With so many other rides and things to do why not ride with mom in the morning, go off to do other things then come back later in the day and ride with dad so she has a fresh perspective on the ride.

I would ask the CM. Technically because Dumbo only holds 2 at a time, your family would take up 2 elephants if you all rode at the same time. By waiting one cycle and then boarding you are still taking up that 1 additional elephant for you, but your child gets to ride with you and I really don't see what the big deal would be if the CMs say its ok

It's a tricky one as in theory no one is inconvenienced by it so it shouldn't be a problem. In practice it's the type of thing that people moan about. Don't know why, they've lost nothing but maybe they see someone get something they don't and decide it's unfair. It's a completely irrational argument but sometimes people think like that.

Talk to the castmember in/by the queue. Explain the situation (you both want to ride with your child) and hopefully they'll be sympathetic about this and let you do it.

    Have fun.

I thought this had to do with people putting keys in a bowl in the middle of the room... ?

Sometimes things just don't work out. Personally, I think you standing in line further back is a genuine solution.

When I take my kids to Disney, we don't always get to ride Indy cars because there aren't enough tall people to go around. So we make do with what we can.

We actually had an opposite type of situation thrust upon us a few years ago.

We were standing in line behind a young mother with three young children at Goofy's Barnstormer. She couldn't ride with all three, or even two of them and couldn't leave them behind. She looked at us with a pleading glance after the CM told her they would not all fit. The CM also glanced our way. Since we were on our own at the world for the first time, we offered to take one child each with us when we were on the ride - and ride right behind her in her car. To this day, I remember her grateful look and the look from her beautiful little children while we escorted them on the ride.
Officially too many trips to list here!

There are only a hand full of rides that have this scenario, Dumbo being one of them. If we came back later, we would all have to wait in an hour line. If we do this early in the morning, we can be done with it without wasting additional time.

My attitude may change when I am there. I don't see an issue with it and will plan on doing it. I will ask the CM that is there to see if it is OK. If not, then plan B.

As with so many plans made to conquer the pitfalls of WDW attractions the most telling element is time. Both daily and yearly... I noticed you'll be in WDW the first of March. This, by all accounts, is not the busiest season Disney experiences. Therefore, I'd consider two plans to get your Dumbo ya-ya's taken care of.

First, as you'll be a Resort guest, this opens you to the possibility of EE @ MK during your stay. So... get thee to Dumbo..! Be among the first and I assure you that without much fuss, you'll be able to ride twice with litle wait. Consider having your little one ride with the wife while you wait "just off line". As they exit, step into line. If you're just beginning your queue, folks rarely grouse when a little one joins you.... (the same is NEVER true, however, when three teenagers clamor past you in Space Mtn lines to join a friend who's already at the dock.... you see the difference, right???) Your wife could do the same as you ride.

Next, as Dumbo holds no more than 24 rides, you could "do the Math", allowing no less than 24 people to be in front of you and behind the wife....

However, all these suggestions pale in comparison with the time of year you are there. Nearly crowd free..... Enjoy !

If you all ride at the same time and you ride inthe Dumbo in front of your daughter you can get pictures of her in the Dumbo both before and during the ride. You would not get those doing adult swap. I don't have a problem with what you are doing. I won't ride the tea cups but I stand in line with my family so I can get a close up picture of them in the cup.
