May 14, 1921 – Character actor Richard Deacon was born in Philadelphia, Pa. His Disney credits included “Blackbeard’s Ghost,” “The Gnome-Mobile,” “Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N.,” and “That Darn Cat!.” (TV fans will recognize him as Mel Cooley on The Dick Van Dyke Show and as Lumpy’s father Clarence on Leave it to Beaver.)
May 14, 1923 – Walt Disney writes to New York film distributor Margaret Winkler, looking for a distributor for his new “Alice’s Wonderland” film.
May 14, 1925 – Actor Alvin Epstein, the voice of the Bookseller in Disney’s 1991 classic “Beauty and the Beast,” was born in N.Y.C.
May 14, 1928 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon “Hungry Hoboes” was released.
May 14, 1942 – Academy Award-winning composer and songwriter Frank Churchill passed away in California. In Dec. 1930, he joined The Walt Disney Studios where he scored nearly 65 animated shorts and wrote such timeless tunes as “Whistle While You Work,” “Heigh Ho,” and “Someday My Prince Will Come.”
May 14, 1944 – Filmmaker George Lucas, whose Star Wars and Indiana Jones adventure movies would be the inspiration for many Disney attractions, was born in Modesto, Ca.
May 14, 1948 – Director, writer, and co-creator of “Hannah Montana,” Richard Correll, was born in Los Angeles, Ca. His Disney Channel credits include “The Suite Life of Zak and Cody,” “Cory in the House,” and “That’s So Raven.”
May 14, 1952 – Academy Award-winning movie director, producer and writer Robert Zemeckis was born in Chicago, Il. He is best known for his use of special effects, especially in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”
May 14, 1958 – The Walt Disney Presents TV show featured the episode “Magic Highway U.S.A.”
May 14, 1958 – Disney’s 1953 animated feature “Peter Pan” was re-released in theaters.
