warm enough for wet rides in january?
hi,
I know the weather varies a lot in winter but is it likely to be warm enough to do wet rides like splash mountain or kali river rapids mid january?
we will do 7 or 8 days and would be disappointed if we could not do any wet rides or water park.
we have always done september but we can`t tolerate the heat anymore and wife gets horrible blisters. being from canada and averaging -20 degrees in january we hope florida will be ok.

As we will also be there in January, I've done some weather "recon" lately! We were there from January 5-11 in 2008. The weather was 80 and sunny every single day. All water rides, Typhoon Lagoon (BB is closed for rehab in January) were perfect.
I just checked last years temps as well, and it was 72-74 almost all month long. Sounds perfect to me!

"It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.
"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

thanks for the info
just to be safe and to see osborne lights and the other xmas stuff we booked november so water stuff should hopefully be a safe bet then.

We were there in January this year. The week before we got there, it was a deep freeze with highs in the 40s. That's freak wheather, though. It was in the high 70s and low 80s while we were there. The water rides are definitely on the list of attractions you can hit. However, Splash Mountain will probably be closed for the month, so don't count on that one.

We were there from 28 January to 3 February 2007. When we got there on Sunday we had to wear coats, gloves and hats because overnight temperatures were in the 30s. But in a couple of days, the highs were in the 70s, pretty close to 80, so water rides were definitely feasible sometime during that week. Once highs get into the 60s, then you should be fine on water rides. Warm weather isn't a given in January, but it can definitely happen, since it is Florida, after all.

coming down form Canada i'm going to assume the temperature thats "warm enough for water rides" is likely to be a little lower than what we would call warm enough down south. so, you will likely be fine most days.
However, (for us) we have found after several years of going down for new years that its pretty much a 50/50 thing...about half of the days of our stay are warm enough for water rides/water parks and half are a little on the cool side. So if you watch the weather forecasts and are able to be a bit flexible on which days you hit the wet stuff, you will likely do quite well.

Remember also that not all the elements on the water rides which would get you wet will be turned on in colder weather.

I have been there in January. Never done the waterparks, but will do water rides at MK & AK. We wore ponchos on Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. Kind of dorky, but kept us dry. Also, the water rides were even more fun because we were so scared of getting wet!

You should be fine on Splash Mountain. Kali will depend on the temp., since you get really soaked! I'd probably do it if the temp hits the high 70s, but definitely not if it's in the 60s.

I have been there the last three January's for marathon weekend.
2008 - I would have gone on any ride, any day.
2009 - I would have gone on any ride 2 of the 4 days I was there.
2010 - I wouldn't have gone on a water ride any of the days I was there if you paid me to! I come from the Chicago area and actually bought a sweatshirt to wear under my winter coat.
In all seriousness - weather is something that is completely out of your control. If it ends up being freezing - then remember, there is always next year! I guarantee - you will still have an awesome time!
Have a Magical Day!

Maybe someone can confirm or put this rumor to rest???
No, this is definitely true, like I posted earlier.
