I would love to see a Marvel land. I think it would be a perfect fit for Disney since most of the Marvel characters are cartoon(comic book) based just like Disney. The theming could really be neat if they blew up actual comic book pages on walls.
I do not agree with other posters that say Buzz and Woody are perfect for boys. They are when they are young but once they hit about 9 most boys would be embarrassed to say they are into Buzz and Woody. I know some people on these boards will ague with me that their 10 year old boy loves Buzz and Woody but lets face these kids are influenced by Disney parents.
Since I grew up reading Marvel comics I am a big fan of adding the characters to the parks and it would give the parks the cool factor that older boys look for and would not be embarrassed to be a part of.

We would LOVE to see Marvel characters at one of the parks!

I hope they DON'T bring the Marvel characters to the parks, although I'm sure they will eventually.
Marvel is a dead house, creatively. They haven't produced a new major character with a new story in 30 years. Their stuff is boring. They only exist to license Spider-Man and other characters for cheap toys and terrible cartoons. It's just a licensing machine.
They're really not worthy to be in the same room with Disney.

As you can see, the names are just about interchangable...

Oh my.
Well, perhaps we're in the minority, but we loved the new characters in Princess and the Frog and Tangled!
We also love the fresh new life some of the Marvel characters are getting from the new films. They're fun!
-
I love WDW the way it is, but I loved it in 1979 as a kid as well when it was jus the Magic Kingdom.
I understand that Marvel isn't a homegrown brand, but the fact is it is now a part of the Disney Family.
I also have loved Marvel characters for years. I believe the appropriate place is DHS if its going to be incorporated into an existing park.
I already love DHS (which I wonder if I am in the minority on this one), but would adore an addition of a Marvel based area. They really have the opportunity to do some great things with the Marvel characters, now its just time to wait and see.

Yeah as long as the trend of superhero movies, and reboots continues as it has for the past decade, i can easily see Disney pulling in some Marvel characters into DHS. I dont know about an entire "Land"...but definitely and attraction or two, maybe a live action stun show or something. Personally I'm not a big Marvel fan, more of a DC superman and batman fan, but im sure the attractions at Disney would be great. I went to Island of Adventure for the first time in Sept, love Harry Potter, but the rest of Universal was pretty lame, especially the Marvel area. The characters just seem to be plastered on the walls and the rides dont seem to be themed well with the characters. The park was fun, but the whole time we couldnt wait to get to Disney and appreciate the contrast in quality between the two.

So why the hurry to get Marvel into WDW? The reason the Marvel stuff didn't work is not because Universal messed it up, it's because the characters don't translate well to this medium. You're never going to get a Spiderman Character Breakfast. Sure, the rides could be neat for a bit, but how many parks have tried comic book characters...Six Flags, Paramount, Universal...and they've all been out of date within a few years. Disney is only Disney because we love the characters. I can't wait to have my son's picture taken with Goofy or Mickey or Woody and Buzz when we go every year...not so sure I feel the same about the Incredible Hulk.

Went to the Disney store today here in NY (LI to be exact) & they had Marvel clothing & other items for sale. I recall seeing shirts from Captain America & Spiderman. This would however bring the lack of boy items/attractions back to the parks.

A friend's friend just told me that.
Very interesting. I don't know how they're going to do it along with the whole new fantasyland!

Why not? I'm sure if they offered it, tons of kids would be interested, and not just boys. Our girls would love to have their pictures taken with superheros, just as much as princesses and fairies. Ok, maybe not quite as much as the fairies, but they'd still love a picture with the Hulk!

I'm sure BOYS would love it. But this is where Disney has a problem. They cannot seem to green light anything that is geared to boys, but have no problems greenlighting anything princess related that is strictly geared to girls.
Let's stop defending mediocrity out of Disney and hold Disney to the higher standard they set up themselves.

I've heard this said a lot, but don't really have enough information myself to know how true it is. I think without a doubt there's lots of stuff there for the little girls, but in threads discussing it, plenty of people point out lots of things Disney has that the boys enjoy too. I thought the pirate makeovers were a great idea! Certainly, if they think people will book it, they'll try a superhero meal. There's no investment there beyond the characters showing up at mealtime.

I thik that is a great idea. It is a controlled environment and it won't cost as much as a full all out attraction. I think they also could arrange a few meet and greets around the parks and add something to DTD.

How popular is the pirates makeover for little boys though??? From all accounts I hear, it is a failure... But, honestly, I don't know the truth... A superhero meal would go over great... However, let's think along these lines for a second... Disney has some great "heroes" that are already geared toward boys... And where are those meals??? Nonexistent... However, you have what, three or four Princess meals??? SO, yes, Disney does cater more toward little girls, and for sure, pre-teen girls.... While there are things for boys to enjoy, Disney does not go out of their way to mass market these items... Everywhere you turn its Princess this or Tinkerbell that... With an occasional pirate tossed in for good measure... Disney does a very poor job creating entertainment boys would go crazy for...
Someone correct me if I am wrong... Didn't Universal once have a superhero breakfast featuring Spiderman, Captain America, Wolverine, and maybe a few other X-men characters??? Is that still around or did they shut that down??? And if so, why was it shut????

As far as Marvel Character Meet & Greets go, you could pretty much have one character (or more) for each pavilion in World Showcase...
Captain America
Wolverine
Thor
Captain Britain (agreed, not a well known character)
Storm (Outpost area, perhaps - or in Africa in AK)
Nightcrawler
Also, Sub-Mariner (Namor) could be in or around The Seas?
These are just 'off the cuff' thoughts....
I'm sure it wouldn't take long to match up countries and/or pavilions for independent character or team appearances. Make them random at first, just to see how they go over...

TDO would do this... which is a bad idea... I prefer Disney characters placed in their corresponding countries in World Showcase.... Leave Marvel out.... Marvel can go to DHS....

When I first read this, I shuddered at the idea of Marvel characters walking around WDW, but then I realized that I am simply not a fan of change. But given time I come around and realize new things are often good things. I'm not saying incorporating Marvel characters into ALL of WDW is a good idea, just that maybe we will all be pleasantly surprised with what Disney will come up with.

Unfortuntely, their recent track record doesn't give many people much hope...
They couldn't do it with Power Rangers, possibly a more mainstream franchise at the time, which doesn't give me the warm fuzzies about Marvel. Even the Muppets acquisition doesn't appear to be going too well
They have a track record of failure when it comes to these things. It just not something they are good at. They do much better with original characters and building around them, not integrating existing franchises into their world.

I think the biggest problem is they don't know the world of the other characters... It is much easier with your own characters, putting them into the world you created, rather than shoe horning others' characters into your world and trying to make them fit...
Disney can do it... I believe they can... I just think they have synergy on their mind way too much... If they ever got the theme park rights to Marvel, how long before Iron Man has Mickey ears??? Or Goofy is dressed like Spiderman???
This is where Disney fails....
