Florida Tolls.... from MCO to WDW
I am having a difficult time finding the actual toll amounts. Google gives me two choices:
1) MCO to 528 to I4 To disney
2) MCO to 417 to disney
does anyone know the best route to take and what the prices are for each?

I'm no help with the best route, but the SunPass website has a great toll calculator.

Ive done both routes and find that taking 417 is more of a direct route. BTW this is the same route DME buses take....
Holiday Villas (2000 & 2001)
Parc Corniche (2002 & 2007)
Comfort Inn Lake Buena vista (2008)
Port Orleans Riverside (2009 & 2010)
Pop Century Resort (2011 & 2012)

We prefer the 417 route from MCO. There are two $1.25 tolls = $2.50 one way.

Another vote for the 417. Definitely worth the little bit more to avoid I4 which can be congested and slow.

Definitely take the 417 South exit. If you take Exit 6, you will have two 1.25 tolls, if you continue to exit 3 there is a .50 (exact change only). Exit 3 is closer to MK & AK resorts, but I always use Exit 6 and continue straight and your on Disney property and just follow signs to your resort.

Living in the area, there are two roads that I avoid like the plague - -
1.) SR 528 (aka The Beachline); and
2.) Interstate 4
Does that help any in narrowing down your choice ?

417 4 Sure
We will be driving 584 miles to DISNEY in 36 DAYs....
When we hit Sanford, Fl. we will ALSO take the 417 Toll Road to miss the I-4 traffic. This road drops you off right at the front door to your DISNEY Resort! $6 bucks from end to end for us.
Enjoy the ride!

How does a Sunpass work? Pre-pay or pay after?

You make an initial deposit to your account - SunPass only requires an initial $10 deposit - via a credit or debit card. You set the point at which you want them to replenish your account from the same credit/debit account. For example, in my case I deposit $30 and when my balance drops to $10, they automatically take $20 from my debit account and deposit it to my SunPass account.

I have one of each. Transponder & sticker. I purchased my sticker at the first service center. The cost 4.95 and I added extra 10.00 and it was activated immediatly. When we got to hotel I called and registered it and received 4.95 credit to my acct. You can set up to have automatic deposits when it reaches 10.00, but you don't have to do this.
The transponder can go from car to car, so I can use when we don't drive and have rental car. The sticker cannot be transfered. The $ amount on my sticker can be transfered to the transponder so I didn't lose anything.

I broke down and bought the sunpass device. We went over to KSC.
It says no batteries and the money I put on the account should last for years. The tolls are not much, it is more of a convenience thing. It was actually fun.

When I first got my EZPass (an automated toll pass for several NE states like MD, PA, DE) I felt the same way. I was very nervous for the first few tolls, but then I learned to trust it.
Do the $1.25 tolls on 417 have exact change lanes or just attended lanes? Wondering if I should have 12 quarters handy (5 for each plus 2 for oscela). I don't plan on using the plate pass on my rental car and it's $2.50 per rental day "convenience fee".

YES, they do have unattended (exact change) as well as attended lanes on the SR 417.
ALSO, if you get off 417 for some reason or need, those exit Tolls are also unattended and you will need quarters for that.
I usually get two rolls of quarters before I leave for vacation and stick them in the glove box for exactly the same thing!
Left-Overs go into my change jar for next years vacation money.
I may try the SUN PASS this year so I can breeze on thru the toll booths?
Enjoy the Ride!

if I get a sunpass I would have to bring it on my flight... that brings up some questions for me
Will the FAA have a problem with me bringing it on my carry on?
will the xray machines cause it to fail?
and
Can I use it on my rental car or does the sunpass need to be registered (and used) on a vehicle that I own?
Actually the more i look at the routes... Which Pass would I get for the 417 from MCO to WDW? Its not listed on the Sunpass website
