I am sure this is not the first time this question has come up however I can't seem to find the answer in the FAQ.
Can I remove a posted reply once it is posted?

The ability for Guests to edit or remove their posts expires a short time after a post is made. I believe it is around 10 - 15 minutes after you post.
If you post a mistake that egregiously alters the intent of your post and don't catch it in a short time after posting, you can contact a Moderator of that forum and they will be happy to make the correction for you.
The Moderators of each forum are listed in the bottom right hand corner of each forum page (where all the topics/threads are listed). By clicking on their name you will go to their profile page. From there, you can select "Send Message" from the blue tool bar on the left side of the screen.

So... I just posted something. And wanted to make a change but can't find the edit icon. Where would it be?
Nevermind...hehehehehe just found it!
But I don't remember there being a time limit on updating your own posts. Is this a fairly new thing? Note that I don't post often - though I've been a member F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Nope - been here since we've been running the boards. It prevents someone from going back and deleting or editing a thread that otherwise might have a ton of information in it days, months or years after they post. It also prevents people from altering the path of discussions that take place in sequential order.
There is a time limit to edit your original post, after that, it locks.

Thanks John. I knew I remembered editing my posts - never realized there was a time limit! That's what happens when you are a long time "reader" few times "poster"!
