Default Which resort Christmas decorations a must see ?

We will be at WDW the week before Christmas this year. It will be our first Christmas trip in almost 10 years. The last time we were there we took the monorail over to GF to see the gingerbread house and other decorations. They were beautiful and I definitely want to see them again.

Are there other resorts that are a must see at Christmastime?

The Boardwalk! It has been a few years since we were there with Christmas decorations, but they have typically done a lovely job. There's usually something in the main lobby - one year it was a gingerbread house, there's been a Christmas village/train display. Very pretty.

So hard to decide! The Christmas trees at WL and AKL are stunning but we saw an amazing gingerbread carousel at Beach Club last year that we got to watch them build

Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We stayed at WL one year during the week they put up decoration. It was so wonderful going to be and waking up to a decorated lobby.

Wilderness Lodge would be at the top of my list.

I would also suggest taking a "monorail tour". You can get on the monorail and spend a few hours touring each of the 3 resorts. The Grand Floridian is by far the best of the monorail resorts for Christmas, but I think each deserves a visit!

All of the Epcot area resorts are beautiful during the holidays. We like to book dinner at one of the resorts one night and spend some time strolling the Epcot loop. Even the Swan and Dolphin are decorated. BC/YC/BW are definitely not to be missed.

And if you want to see how the guests go all out for the hoildays try taking the sleigh ride over at Fort Wilderness. It's an explosion of Christmas decor!

In addition to Grand Floridian & Wilderness Lodge, definitely make a trip over to the Epcot resorts, Beach Club, Yacht Club, & Boardwalk. Each resort has a different display to enjoy. And, there are Photopass photographers so you can get some great picutres with the decorations.

I personally enjoyed the campsites at Fort Wilderness. We did the Carriage ride through the campsites and then went and walked. It was neat to see all the different Disney Christmas items people had collected.

We're going to be there the week of Thanksgiving. Will the decorations be up at that time or will we miss them?

We have visited twice during Thanksgiving week. In 2007 and 2009. On both of those trips we noticed the same thing. MK was fully decorated, except for the tree. The tree doesn't go up until after the Christmas parade taping in early Dec. Actually in 2007 the tree was over by the castle, then they moved it after the parade taping, but I'm pretty sure that since then they've just waited till after the taping to put it up.

In the past Epcot has not started doing the Christmas's around the world until the day after Thanksgiving, I think. DHS should be decorated and the Osborne Lights up. AK had the Christmas parade.

As far as the resorts go, not all the resorts were fully decorated when we arrived at the beginning of the week, and some were not done when we left. I remember staying at Cornoado in 2007 and they were just starting to decorate as we were leaving. Also in 2009 one of the monorail resorts, I think it was the Poly, was not yet decorated when we visited. Most resorts were decorated, or in the process of being decorated, but on both of our Thanksgiving trips there were some resorts that hadn't started yet. AKL was not decorated on one of our trips. I remember going there specifically to see the decorations and there was nothing. So you should see a lot of Christmas decor but, don't be surprised or disappointed if a few resorts aren't completely done yet.

I really like the carousel they put together at the Beach Club, so I'd recommend putting that on your list.

My all time best is the Wilderness Lodge but many are so pretty just take a day and visit a few of the resorts and have a nice lunch. Its best to see them at night during Christmas time anytime after Thanksgiving. I choose the Friday after Thanksgivng as the parks are still croweded.

I would suggest what a pp mentioned (this is what we did on our Christmas trip and it worked really well)...The monorail loop is a must-see with the GF being the icing on the cake. We planned a lunch at GF cafe (anywhere on the monorail loop would do) and then just stopped at each resort after lunch. We ended the day in the MK so it worked out great! Then on another day we had lunch at Epcot and then took the boat to the YC (we were too full to walk that far! ) and walked the loop of YC/BC/BW and then spent the evening doing Osbourne lights. Mom is in an ECV and has health issues so we didn't get to WL or AKL since they weren't on the loops. One morning when she was sleeping in my sister and I went to the Swan and Dolphin...I thought the Swan was great too! Mom's favorite was POFQ (she liked the simple, festive look)!
