I've not been to the Florida one, but we used to frequent the one in California when we lived nearby. Our kids LOVE Legoland, and 4 is a great age!
From what I understand, the one in FL isn't really near much, hotel wise. It's probably fine to just drive down and back one day. It's about an hour away from Disney. Legoland tends to have short park hours, and usually doesn't open until 10am, closing at 8pm at the latest. It's easy to get there and back on the same day.
I highly recommend Legoland if you have little ones. It's a great park.

There are a couple of chain hotels around but we have always done it as a day trip. If you go to their website and check the packages page you can see what hotels are near by.
My kids really loved Legoland. My only warning is they are very strict on the height guidelines so if your son is on the smaller side you may want to check the website. Average to tall 4 year olds should have no problems.
Legoland in California is set to open its first hotel in April of this year... As popular as the Florida park has become, a hotel cannot be too far behind...

TRICIA JONES: I heard that you were going to propose to Brandi Svenning at some theme park. When are men going to learn that women want ROMANCE, not Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...
BRODIE: Hey, now, be fair. EVERYONE wants Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
I live a few miles from Legoland. Have yet to go but have heard nothing but good things. Not much hotel wise around there. There is one hotel next to the park. Used to be a Best Western and now a "parkview" hotel. A few miles away in Winter Haven there are several hotels. Also a few hotels out on 27 in Lake Wales.
The problem for the Disney visitor is it is about 45 minutes away and the hours are limited. Park usually closes between 5-7 and if you are there on a 5 o'clock closing you aren't going to find much to do. If you do want to stay overnight I would stay out on 27 near the mall (Eagle Ridge Mall) with a cinema and a bowling alley. I would imagine some things are in the works as the park is getting popular but there is just not too much there yet in terms of things to do other than Legoland.
