Room Assigner
I remember awhile ago, that you could fax the "Room Assigner" with room/location requests a few days before arriving. Does WDW still do that and if so, is there a new procedure?
Thanks,
COG

The procedure now is to note any room requests on your reservation and you can also make specific requests (buildings, floor, etc) when you do online check-in. That's really the best way to do it now.

Is there a blank to type your requests on online check-in? I've only ever been able to select from a menu of choices, like "close to transportation" or "close to pool", etc. I've never been able to type in specific room requests. On our last trip I went to another popular Disney site and used their room request feature, where you can select a view that you like and it will give you room numbers to request. Then the site will fax Disney right before your trip. I also did online check in through Disney. The online check in request overrode the fax request, as my room was close to the bus stop but didn't have the view I wanted (not even close!)

As Chris says, the procedure now is to have all your requests noted on your reservation. Faxed requests are rarely even looked at rather they go straight into the recycle bin.
On line check-in only had a small handful of items available for each resort - there isn't a free-form area to enter anything else. Again if you have other specific requests, these need to be noted on your reservation.
TIP: it's simpler for you if you make your reservations through Magical Journeys (Karen is marvelous) and let them take care of all your requests.

Best thing to do, especially if you have specific requests, is to have them noted on your reservation at the time you make it.

It depends on the resort. I know some still do it.

There's only one I know of that still takes faxes, they were a colossal pain in the neck for the resort staff. At any rate, it's still better to call in your requests. At least that way you know someone is actually typing your request into the registration record right then and there. A fax is a separate piece of paper that can get lost or misplaced, and then has to be matched up with the computer record.
