HURRICANE WARNING Issued for WDW
Due to the approach of Hurricane Matthew, Orlando, including WDW, has been placed under a hurricane warning, which means hurricane force winds are considered probable within 36 hours. Matthew has slowed slightly so it looks like the main impact for WDW will come on Friday and all indications are that landfall will occur around Melbourne and WDW will experience at least Cat 1 level winds along with torrential rainfall.
Guests at Ft Wilderness will be moved to other resorts. If you need to cancel, your cancellation fee will be waived. If you're arriving tomorrow (Thursday), no worries. WDW will take good care of you during the storm. There's no safer place to be during a hurricane. They will also do a good job of getting the park back to operation quickly. They're experts at this and want to keep disruption to a minimum but safety is the number 1 concern.
Keep a check on the weather thread as I will update consistently as needed in the tropics part, even if I don't update the main forecast section.

Watches were posted mid-day yesterday. Our flight brought us out of Florida last evening. At that point in time, there were no issues with flights and schedules. I suspect that will change over the next 24 hours or so.

We are at WDW now, going home Saturday evening (theoretically). Thanks for the rational updates, Chris. Greatly appreciated.

I will tell you that there are NO rooms available anywhere on WDW property- I tried to get a reservation there to move a little inland, and they are 100% sold out.

I was wondering about this. I just asked this questions in the other thread stating no new arrivals are being accepted through Sunday.

Memories of 2004's Charley, Frances and Jeanne have been on my mind all day. It was quite the experience. My newly constructed home became a shelter for my brother and his 4 friends. My house held up pretty good, only a few repairs needed and a new mailbox. My husband only missed one day of work at WDW, and that was because he was out of gas and couldn't get any. :p I hope everyone stays safe, and off the roads as long as possible until everything is cleaned up.

We're at the Grand Flo Villas. Not a bad place to ride out the storm.
Just heard they also evacuated Treehouse Villas at SSR

Stay safe - everyone who is there!! I was in touch with a friend who was supposed to be there through Friday. They are there until at least Sunday as that was the first flight out they could rebook and I wouldn't be surprised if that got changed as well.

Both of you are at pretty good places to ride out the storm. Lynn, you know how much I love the GFV! Steve, I read in Dining how you ordered the twilight feast from Polynesian room service. Great idea and it sounds delicious! While I am glad I missed the storm by a week, I would have loved to have met both of you!
Stay safe!

Poly CL has been a very good place. The staff has had food available in the lounge and it's well stocked. Even the constant Hawaiian music outside continues.
No real impacts this morning (Oct 7). Some minor debris and no damage seen at all. Winds are at most low tropical storm.

We're over in a lake view Poly studio. All is well here too. CMs are currently inspecting the bungalows for damage. The people in the bungalows were relocated yesterday morning. We had a phone message this morning that food service at the resort was closed today as was housekeeping.

FWIW. The TTC Ferry boats are right outside our room. The flags on the ferries have been blowing just slightly east of due south all day yesterday and this morning. They just shifted to a nearly due east direction.

The curfew has been lifted, and things at the resort are getting back to some semblance of normal.

We got a message that limited bus service to Disney Springs will resume this evening. Limited restaurants will be open. I guess they realized they need to get people fed. Here at GF Gasparillas and 1900 will have limited dinner service for those staying here only.

Same for Poly. 'Ohana is open for those staying here. First come, first served. The line is from the check in stand all the way back to the doors out to the monorail.
The staff here has been super.

The Poly CL has been amazing. Lots of food and Chef Glen was part of the ride out crew and has been producing wonderful items. Very fortunate and it's the place to be in a storm.
Disney has also done a top notch job of keeping us informed. Lots of messages on the phone before and during keeping us up to date.
On the lagoon a few limited water craft doing inspections of docks and moorings and can see acros to MK bus stop a CM bus arriving with staff apparently to do ramp up. Castle wasn't lit last night at all but is right now.
