Grand Floridian
The wife and I will be going down on May 11th and leaving on the 13th - a quick two night stay - with no park time. Besides shopping at DTD and resort hopping (Poly and Contemp) what would you suggest seeing at the resort. We probably won't be staying here again and will eventually go back to our "home" the Coronado.

Grab a seat in the lobby and enjoy the music! I love listening to the pianist during the day, and the band in the evenings!
Enjoy an afternoon tea
The pool is very nice. I just sat by the pool with a cool beverage listened to the sounds of the resort and Magic Kingdom!
It is a lovely resort. I hope you enjoy it!

The Orchestra is wonderful to listen to. You can also wander down to the dock in the evening to watch the Electrical Light Parade and the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

I enjoy the shops at the Grand Floridian, especially Basin White, and soaking up the atmosphere in the lobby. Grab a drink and snack at Mizner's. I love all of the restaurants, but I would pick Grand Floridian Cafe if you want a more casual meal or Narcoosee's if you feel a little fancier. If you've been to Narcoossee's, Citricos is good, too. And of course, Victoria and Albert's if you wanted to go all out. But even the counter service is nice, and you can get a table outside overlooking the marina with a great view of the castle. Take a stroll around the grounds, the fountain near the courtyard pool, the sand along the beach near the main pool, head over and have a look at the spa (or get a spa treatment!) and the DVC building (penguin fountain in lobby, adorable). The Electric Light Parade comes around at 9:15, I think? Great viewing near the dock and Narcoossee's or the back side of Boca Chica building. If you like a good night swim, you can even see some of the fireworks from the courtyard pool.

We have found the new Disney Springs area to be completely delightful!
It would be beneficial for you to research the new area, if you can get a map of the area before hand. I love, love, love Amorette's Patisserie (next to World of Disney). I could watch them decorating the pastries for hours (but that would be weird, so I don't do that) - but I also love watching the cast members decorate the caramel apples in the candy shops.
They have a food truck area now where they are selling hand-dipped corn dogs, just like the ones they make and sell at Disneyland. - so yummy.
We enjoy using the boats as transportation, it is a nice ride and gets you off your feet and in the water to see a new perspective of the area.
As far as your resort goes...
At the Grand Floridian on the same level as the monorail, there are a couple of sets of doors that open up onto a type of balcony area. On one side you can watch the monorails come and go, on the other side you can watch the kids splash and play area. The one that fronts the water area is a smoking section, but if no one is out there or you don't mind the smoke, we enjoyed watching the giant bucket shaped like the Mad Hatter's Hat, fill with water and dump. (I know it's the simple things).
I agree also with listening to the piano player or the orchestra in the lobby. It is really nice there.

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. We will arrive early afternoon on the 11th and leave on the 13th. I only have a two hour lunch meeting on the 12th so quite a bit of down time to see the grounds and wander around.

I did not think this was possible.

It's not possible. There's a waterway in between where they store the Electrical Parade floats and no bridge. You can walk in the direction of the MK until you hit the waterway, and that might be what the poster meant. ?

You can definitely take a walk between the GF and the Poly. At night it is a nice walk with no to almost no people but yourself. It is one of those rare things to do and enjoy. NO people but you!

I second the walk between the GF and the Poly. My parents do it every time they stay at one of the two resorts. Sometimes they catch a bride getting ready for her big day at the Wedding Chapel, which just makes my mom's day.
First Trip: 1986 at 6 mths. old!
Latest Trip: February 2017
Next trip: October 1017
Stayed at: Caribbean Beach, POP Century, Wilderness Lodge, The Contemporary, The Polynesian, the Beach Club, the Yacht Club, Grand Floridian, Art of Animation, Disney DREAM
