Honey, I Shrunk the Audience Logo

The information on this site may not be reproduced in any form on the Internet without express written permission from EDC.

To the left of the glass pyramids and the entrance to the Journey Into Imagination ride is the entrance to Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. The sign above the doorway features a miniature shrinking ray that casts smoke every few minutes. Moving inside, we are now in the lobby of the Imagination Institute - a fake organization devoted to honoring the world's greatest inventors. We are going to see this year's "Inventor of the Year" award presented to Professor Wayne Szalinski, the man who created a shrinking machine in the "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" movie. Today, he is being honored and we will see a demonstration of some of the inventions Prof. Szalinski has created here at the Institute.

Looking around the lobby, we see that the tinted windows and the carpet each feature the "Imagination Institute" logo. Signs show pictures of Prof. Szalinski with his invention and banners proudly sport the "Imagination Institute" and "Inventor of the Year" logos. A sign on the far wall says "Imagination Institute" and has pictures of some past recipients of the award. To the left of this sign is this quote: "Imagination is the preview of life's coming attractions." To the right is this quote: "Imagination is more important than knowledge." To the right of the entranceway is a banner with the Imagination Institute logo and the words "Welcome to the OPEN HOUSE" on it. The LCD display over the entranceway tells us how many minutes are left until the show begins. When it is time, we proceed into the Pre-Show area, but not until we've received our 3D glasses called safety goggles for this show. A sign above the podium where Cast Members distribute the safety goggles has a picture of the goggles and says "For your protection, please do not wear safety goggles until you are seated in the auditorium. Thank you. Please return the goggles at auditorium exit."

True Colors Pre-Show

Cast Member: Please continue moving all the way down the ramp and all the way to your left filling in all of the available space. If you have taken a seat on the floor, we do ask that you stand. This is standing room only. Please move all the way down the ramp and all the way to your left. There's still plenty of room down front.

As we move into the pre-show area, the screen says "Welcome to the Imagination Institute OPEN HOUSE." Then the Imagination Institute logo appears and spins around. A series of phrases appears. The first half of the phrase appears to the left of the logo. Then a few seconds later the rest of the phrase appears to the right of the logo.

We're Crazy About Ideas

We Can't Think
of Anything
More Fun
Than Imagination

We're Nuts About Ideas

We don't
know anything
That can't
be imagined

We should all
be committed
To better living
through Imagination

Out of
our minds
And into
your world

Inventor of the Year Award

Cast Member: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Imagination Institute - the only facility in the world solely dedicated to the study of imagination. Each year we are proud to present the Inventor of the Year Award which will be starting up in a couple of minutes right next door. But first, we'd like to show you our tribute to imagination: True Colors.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR IMAGINATION

Use it

Ask questions

Take risks

Take a picture

Take a vacation
without leaving your home

Be curious

Expect the unexpected

Invent your own language

Think backwards

Doodle

Build a model
without the instructions

Look at the world
        from a different angle

Female:
You see your true colors shining through
Those brilliant true colors glowing brightly inside you
So don't be afraid to let them through
And to see your true colors shining through
Those brilliant true colors glowing brightly inside you
So don't be afraid to let them through
Your true colors are beautiful like a rainbow

EXERCISES FOR YOUR IMAGINATION

Stretch your mind

Play "What if?"

Pick up a camera
and see what develops

Stay up all night

Write with your opposite hand

Take a blank piece of paper
then do something with it

Make Believe

Remember:
Things aren't always what they seem

A small circle with a bird flying is projected above those words. The rest of the picture fills in and we see that it was not exactly what it seemed to be (a picture of a bird flying in the sky), but a picture of sunglasses with a bird reflected in one of the lenses.

Male:
Open up your mind's eye
There's so much to see when you realize
You can do anything
If you only imagine
Close your eyes and soon you'll see
There's a place deep inside you
That can set you free

HOW TO JUMP-START YOUR IMAGINATION

Think about something else

Talk to yourself

Talk to the animals

Look at the
BIG picture

Look to nature for inspiration

Play

Be Playful

Look at the world
through the eyes
of a child

Child 1: Lost in the darkness

Child 2: It's not what it seems, just try imagining

Child 1: And a world full of wonders will be yours

Child 2: If you just let your imagination run free

Both: Take a look at the world and see all it can be

HOW TO COME UP WITH AN IDEA

Brainstorm

Don't procrastinate

Turn your thinking inside out

Notice the
little things

Get in touch
with your inner child

Loosen up

Stay focused
(starts out blurry and then focuses)

Daydream

Paint something

Use all the colors
of your imagination

Imagination comes in many colors

Male:
You'll see your true colors shining through
Those brilliant true colors glowing brightly inside you
So don't be afraid to let them through
You'll see your true colors shining through
Those brilliant true colors glowing brightly inside you
So don't be afraid to let them through
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful like a rainbow

The first rule of imagination:
There are no rules

If you can imagine it, you can do it

Believe in yourself

Never say never

Imagine the possibilities

The possibilities are endless

Both Male & Female:
Take a look around you
And watch how you feel when you realize
You can do anything
If you only imagine the impossible can come true
Take a chance and you'll see
There's nothing you can't do

All:
So show your true colors
Let them through
Blow out your true colors to the world all around you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
Let them through
Blow out your true colors to the world all around you
So don't be afraid to let them show

The last picture shows two children standing with their bikes in front of a sunset. The background sunset is then replaced with a rainbow.

Child 2: Your true colors are beautiful like a rainbow

All: True Colors!

The next portion of the pre-show introduces the Imagination Institute and the show we are about to see. Continue on to Part 2.
