<< The Holiday Road with CanadianWDWFan >>

As I have previously reported, there are two trains of thought on driving down to Walt Disney World, one is to get there as soon as possible and the other is to take your time and see all the sights the road to Walt Disney World has to offer. To decide what is right for you will have to do with how well your family travels in the car and how long your stay at the World is. For longer stays it is more justifiable to take longer traveling to get there. Shorter stays do require you to spend less time on the road to maximize your Park time.

For the drive, there are several things to consider to help fight off the boredom that can arise for your passengers, and help you as a driver to keep your mind on the road. Several required items for your drive to consider, but not limited to, are as follows:

-DVD system, preferably one that will play through your car’s stereo system. After all, the driver deserves to enjoy themselves on the drive as well.
-Books, Games and Game systems.
-Pillows and blankets- for nap times.
-Maps for everyone to follow.
-Snacks

-- The Scenic Route --

From personal experience we like to do more things on the way down, since driving home we are more likely to be in the frame of mind that our vacation is over and just want to get home. This can make for a long drive.

Planning is the key to success for any trip. Some things to consider are, the time of year you are traveling, potential weather conditions and road construction along the way. Using maps, internet, tour books, travel guides, AAA and word of mouth, you then decide which route is best for you. While planning your route, you can then see the many places of interest along the way. We find that the internet and AAA tour guides are a great start in helping finding places of interest. Look ahead to see if there are any cities, towns or attractions that would interest you and if needed adjust your course accordingly.

Decide how long you want to be off the road and what you want to see and perhaps more importantly, how long you want to be in the car every day. Plan your drive and drive your plan will help get you to your destination on time. One point I would like to make though is to be open to change and spontaneity, one trip we were surprised when we stopped off for a break and unexpectedly ended up seeing one of the more interesting sights we have seen during our drives.

Choosing too many stops can quickly make your drive very long and un-enjoyable. Being on the road can be a trying experience for anyone, so choose what you must see and do on this trip and perhaps save some of the stops for another vacation.

Drive safe and enjoy the drive.

-- Epcot: Part Four --

- All of the flowers planted and potted around the American Pavilion are chosen to reflect the color scheme of red, white and blue.

- Japan’s landscaping, although it does not look out of place, is not native to the country, as the Florida climate would not support indigenous plants.

-To maintain the illusion of a thousand foot Eiffel tower, it has deterrents to prevent birds from landing on it. IF they were allow to perch on the tower, the tower would visually shrink while the birds would look very large!

- In Canada – the plants near the bottom of the Rocky Mountains are much larger than those on the top. This gives the illusion of the mountain being higher than it actually is.
