Default Cheapest and most convient car rental place

Which car company is the best to rent from and is the cheapest if not renting for a whole week? Also is it better to rent at the airport or get a shuttle to the car rental services on WDW property? Thanks for all the input. Leaving in less than a month and haven't rented the car yet. We would like to do shopping off property.

Car rental rates have been quite high in the Orlando area recently and I haven't seen much fluctuation in price. I'd suggest going to the car rental websites and trying out several scenarios to see which works best for you and your needs. Sometimes, you may find it less expensive (or about the same) to rent for a week versus just a few days. If you're only going off-property once or twice, also try to figure out whether it would be less expensive to just take a taxi to your destination.

check out the Alamo site. I got an e-mail in the last week from them for $15 a day for a Thursday to Monday rental. They also offer so much off for a weekly rental.

This time I found a site that tracks all sorts of different companies for the best price. I got a convertible all set for a week in January with National for $162 total. Pm me if you would like the site name.
    Can I go "home" yet?

    on Alamo
I am leaving for WDW this Thursday and I just checked their last minute rates and got a convertible for $174+ tax and fees for a weekly rate normally its about $500 and up!
How happy am I especially since I am leaving my convertible to pick up another one!
Also as Faline suggested there is an Alamo desk at the Dolphin just in case you would want to rent a car for a day or two

We always use Alamo at the airport. Sign up for their Quicksilver and get even better discounts! (And they even let you combine Entertainment Book coupons with them!) Can't beat the price!

I always use Alamo. Last year I checked about 3 weeks before we were going and the price had dropped over $100. So I canceled my first ressie and made a new one.

We've gotten some good prices using our Emerald Club membership with National. We love being able to skip the counter, pick any car that we want in the Emerald Aisle, and drive to the exit for some quick paperwork. Plus, National has some nice last-minute deals and they have coupons on their website.

gotta throw in my plug for Avis!

I ALWAYS rent from them. I am a member of the Avis Preferred club, which means I don't need a credit card auth or hold to rent. I just go, grab my car and drive away. No charges until its all done. I have never had a car with more than 10K miles on it, they have nice cars and selection, and great deals. I'd give them a shot.

One other note, joining a frequent renters club is usually free and gets you better deals. Take a look at a few of them and see what you like.

I agree with everyone. Check the car rental sites until the last minute (even if you receive emails with specials) because deals pop up all the time. And I agree that you should type in as many possibilities as you can think of (like weekly rate or daily rate).

On our last trip we used National out of the Dolphin. We were staying at BLT and went over to the Dolphin to pick up the car (and do other things in the area) We learned that when using National or Alamo we could have been picked up (at no charge) at our resort and taken to get a car at the car care center. At the end of the rental period we could have driven the car back to the car rental center and they would have driven us back to our resort. Another option to consider.

We always bid on Priceline for our rental car and end up getting excellent deals.
